    Default This looks really good!

I feel really good about this solution.

Arkansas (AR is the missing element on the Periodic Chart.)
Interstate 40 (The 4 Tea cups or the 4 T-shirts)
Mile Marker 36 (The drawer pulled out on the wall of drawers
with the plant in it is...over-3-down-6...36.)

Because the two rest areas here are not directly across from
each other, on this floor, there is not an "eye" image ...
which is used to denote a double rest area.

There is a hat with a feather (pointing to the right) in the drawing.
This may mean to look at the East Bound side rest area.

If someone has already put forth this solution, I have not seen it.
Is there anyone in this area to check it out?

    Wink

Now I'm a little upset that I wasted a stamp on sending in my Hunt card.

@animalpainter, it's hard to discern the green bits in that drawer cabinet, but I'm reasonably certain that it's a drawer of "chemical grade" emeralds that P.K.Quello uses for his experiments. He had to put a bunch through his machine to get a bowl of eyeballs.

Nice solution btw. I'm lost in the endless possibilities that this floor offers, but I'm finding it hard to base anything on the 4T variants. I'm guess I'm just wondering why one numerical possibility is better than another...granted the 4 T's are somewhat reinforced by the 4 Teas.

What I've been doing lately is refining my deductive skills by asking the question "what is wrong with this picture (what doesn't fit)? and why?" rather than asking "what could this mean?" I'm convinced the answer must fit in a context of "this is why" and the red herrings will fit a "this is why not" quality.

Edit:I should elaborate: @animalpainter, you found "36" by counting left to right and down. I've been thinking that the rainbow bookcase on 1st floor suggested we should work Right to Left and Up. Maybe that result is worth considering. I left my book at work...or I'd check and see what that gives us.

    Default Square state?

I posted this at HitContests earlier today.

    State:
Wyoming was the 44th state. There are lots of 4's in the picture - four teacups, four t-shirts, four blenders, four pieces of onion, etc.

I have some (potentially) supporting anagrams for a WY solution, but I won't bore you with all the details. One hint: it has to do with turning Quello into Yellow. Which letters are needed?

    Highway and Mile:
I admit, reverse engineering from these numbers is what really led me to the state solution. The 44th state idea (and the WY) came after the fact.

In the cabinet with all the drawers, assuming that there is a drawer for each element, I believe there are 80 drawers on the right-hand side. This could mean the highway is Interstate 80.

On the left-hand side of the cabinet, if you count the columns in each section, there are 3, then 2, then 3 columns. The mile could be 323.

This would make the dig site/rest area Red Buttes, near Laramie, WY:
    http://www.findfuelstops.com/truck-stop-013777#MapTop

It's about a 2-hour and 10-min. drive from Denver, CO. The website I saw said this rest area serves both sides of the highway, like the other dig sites found so far.

It would be great if a newly interested Weekend Edition fan went out and found this number! Could be the 12!

So I made a few different leaps with this one I checked out today to no success. I saw 4 teas + 4 tees to mean 8 t's, or I-80. The two elements highlighted in the whole picture are He and Mi, giving us "hemi", or half. Halfway between these two elements on the table is Ne, which I saw as Nebraska. Working with a list of rest stops in Nebraska, I found that if you multiply the numbers of each of the test tube racks, you get 160, which was one of the rest stops that served both sides. well, after about a half hour between both stops I found nothing, but since I haven't seen these numbers anywhere else I figured I would share...

There is also an extra column in the periodic table... covered by the rope.

    Animal Painter,

I like your solution, too. On June 2, Journo posted on the hitcontests forum that she checked Arkansas 1-40 , Mile Marker 36.

Of course, it could still be there and Journo missed it, but at least someone has given it a look.

Default 2 rest areas for mm 36

    Maskit,
Journo must have known that there were two sides
to search..but they were not directly across from each other.

Thanks for letting me know that Journo did a search.

    Has anyone tried:
State - North Carolina (state gem is the emerald! and the bowl of eyeballs may have once been emeralds?)
    Interstate - 40 ("four tees"/"four teas")
Mile - 136 (from the approximate solution on the board, 136.22)

    Perhaps?
    Checked and no luck.

    Default what is this shape?

If you look at the shape of the "out" portal of the machine
(where the t-shirts are) it is outlined in red...strange...
The shape reminds me of the "badge" shape of the
interstate signs...but it is slightly different.

I have looked at all of the state hyw signs at the link
below, and have not been able to find this shape yet.

    AARoads Shield Gallery

Does anyone recognize this shape as being anything other
    than a t-shirt shape?
