    Default texas

Already checked it out last night...at the same time you were
    finding number 10. No luck.
There was no metal marker on any tree on either side of I-35.

Wow, I was there too - yesterday afternoon. I searched both sides and did not find a marker either. I saw several groundskeepers, but I didn't bother asking them.

    Default tree scar

There was an odd-shaped tree scar on one tree...a distorted pentagon maybe?
But there was no hole for a nail or fastener to show where a metal
plate may have been removed. There were several groundskeepers
even at midnight...strange time for workers to be there.
The ground around the tree was all mud..no grass...and no emeralds

The "H20" looked like it could mean Hwy 20..but there was no
corresponding rest area mile marker number for it.

Pentagon shaped tree scar? There you have it... It is now known that there are little metal plates attached with a small nail as a marker.
    This one is gone...

    Default tree scar

    Tinkerbell,
I just edited my post to redefine the description
of the shape of the tree scar. It looked too "iffy"
to call a true pentagon shape. It was also old.
It could not have been created in just the last
    few months...more like years...

I remember one tree had a relatively small area of bark that had been pulled off (knocked off, whatever) recently. I could tell it was recent because of the coloring (still a reddish-brown). I think it was at about waist level. I probed the ground around some of the trees with a screwdriver. I don't remember if I probed below that tree, and perhaps my probe wasn't long enough.

I am still searching for a Texas location, since no one
has claimed to have found the emerald at the rest area on I-35.
(The 35 hash marks on the wall on the 2nd floor drawing.)

There is a rest area on U.S. 180 (combined with U.S. 62) that is
7 miles from the New Mexico border. (Culberson County near Pine Spring)
(Can't tell if there is a #7 mile marker.)
The # 180 is the only number on the screen in the 2nd floor drawing,
that is not a valid time designation...setting it apart from the
    other "time" numbers.

There are 7 laser security beams going across the door in the 2nd floor drawing.
(giving us the number seven) There is also an "eye" near the
7 laser beams with a highway-looking image above it.
(The beams also look like the stripes on the buildings at the rest area.)
If you look at the photo of rest area, there are boxes with a single star
on the side...just like the boxes of Lone Star Chili on the 2nd floor page.
    Maybe these are visual confirmers.

Here is a link to the page for this rest area.

Texas Safety Rest Area Program - Locations

Since I cannot get to this location, I put it out here for someone to check.
Maybe you will acknowledge me if you find it there.

    Default 180...20...414

There is an intersection of Hyw 180 and Hyw 20 just outside
of Fortworth...at exit 414! That uses three of the numbers available to us
for the 2nd floor. (Now if there were a rest area at exit 414 we would
    have had a sure-fire location!)
