unless I'm navigating the forum wrong, this floor did not have any discussion of its clues? or maybe they were all buried in the original thread before the split? Anyway, it has been solved! A number 11 was unearthed in California, off hwy I-5 at mile marker 445 under a tree in the parking lot of the southbound rest area (west side).

The clues were (as far as I understand them): the cluster of famous artwork around the sink area of the room, all with California themes; the glowing orange shelf in the shape of the chinese character for the number 5; and a number 445 on the side of the kiln, visible only as a reflection in a mirror.

Wow!! Great news, and I thought "5-way is the wrong way" referred to Hwy 5 because 5-way sounds like highway. It can't be Hwy-5, I thought, but actually that was in reference to floor 7 anyway.

I hope there're lots of pics of the treasure, so we can get an idea what the value is.

    Number 11 on floor 3? That's interesting.

Catherwood, is there a link to this story? Nothing on Gustwintig.com, Hitcontests, or Unfiction yet.

Talked to Catherwood in Chat. I think she has an announcement to make.

    Congrats to the finder!
Does anybody know how he/she figured out where to dig?
I've been to one near me, and my brother went to one near him, and we couldn't find either.
I understand from the article on the official site that a tree was marked in some way.

Although emerald 11 was found, the clues were from the Third Floor.

The clues were very simple - even I was over-analysing it!

State: from the artworks in the kitchen - California.
Highway: from the large Japanese symbol in the main room - 5 (I-5, in this case)
Mile: from the reflection in the mirror - 445

There was a rest area near mile 445 on I-5, and I believe that a pentagon similar to the shape of the book was pinned to a tree there.

Congratulations to the finders - was catherwood the 'Cathy' referred to in the official report?!

    Default Query

Would you say that the door of Rosa's kiln could be described as a hatch? Or is there anything else on this floor that qualifies as a hatch?

Knowing the wordplay in the book, it wouldn't surprise me if the hatch term applies to hatched eggs or cross-hatching in a work of art, in addition to the door-type hatch.

Thanks for any and all replies.

I'm wondering if you are on to something here. I like the word hatch because there numerous hats throughout the pages.

Hey, what about the open freezer door? Icebox?
Also, the picture of frosted circular cakes? Icing? If we link those and negate the ice- we get box-ing.
Remind me of the first floor having a pair of boxing gloves hanging on the wall.
