the tip of the arrow, are drawing attention to that image..or maybe
    the molecular symbol after it.

A Mobius strip has no beginning or end...Whatever is written on it
would be able to be started at any point. If we look at the numbers
in the molecular symbol in their different possible positions, we get:

335, 353, 533 (this does not include the "1" which is understood for N)

Just throwing this out there for consideration.

After Domino called attention to it, I was looking at that blackboard arrow again yesterday, too. I concluded that it was pointing to the grouping of items in the corner of the bedroom. If you draw a straight line from the arrow, it goes through the cake, cups, curtain and cover (or lid) of the toilet. Nearby is a chair and coil, and the cake could be a covered chocolate cake. Lots of the letters in these words are also in the C3H3O5N formula. Don't know if this is significant or not.
It is significant. Lot's of C's fit with with the eyeball theme of C-ing.

Default Just an overgrown herring after all

My daughter and I spent a very rainy day today driving to the Delaware rest areas and searching. It rained the whole time and was very muddy.

The newly reopened rest area on I-95 is between exits 1 and 3, but is at mile 5. The rest area has three mature trees remaining past the bridge to the north. We searched there very thoroughly. There are also a couple long lines of quite old juniper bushes and brush, including poison ivy. We scanned each side of these, but we did not push through the branches and brush to carefully examine each trunk. There are a hundred or so newly planted trees, each with 2 stakes, in the busy parking area. We did not carefully check all of these, since they were both too small for a marker and clearly had not been there when the numbers were stolen anyway. There are also bridge supports and light poles which we checked.

Giving up there, we proceeded to the Smyrna rest area on US 13, Delaware 1, exit 119. I'm not positive of the mile, since Delaware does not number the exits in accordance with the mile. This rest area has many, many trees and a great variety of area types, from overgrown woods to picnic areas to manicured garden. It does have large areas covered with red wood chips, somewhat reminiscent of floor 4, but no other correspondences I noticed. We checked pretty thoroughly, I'm sure my daughter would say I insisted on examining each tree with a microscope. We did not examine past the borders of the overgrown areas around the truck parking, nor one low area by the dog run that was rapidly becoming a swamp.

The DE/95/5 solution seemed like nearly a sure thing, but there just isn't much remaining from the old rest area. If the number was rehidden in the relandscaped area, the marker would have to be on one of the stakes, I suppose. At least, I hope they wouldn't kill one of the little trees by nailing something to it.

I'm disappointed and my daughter is cranky, and we are both wet. Not to mention down 20 bucks from the outrageous tolls.

cosmicjay - I'm sorry to hear that, but I'm glad someone has thoroughly checked out every likely place there.

Sorry to hear no news of a find from you, Jay. Hunting in the rain is the worst!

These suggestions may all be red herrings, but I have been looking at this floor and there are some references that appear to point toward something or someplace that references Tolkien. The first would be "Elves?" stated by Gus. Next is Sigfried. Tolkien wrote a book that was released last year titled "The Legend of Sigurd and Gudrun." Sigurd has also been known as Siegfried. Further, the round doors have a certain resemblance to Hobbit doors. When trying to find any connection between Tolkien and America, a search indicated that there are some streets in Saratoga and San Jose, CA that have street names drawn from Tolkien's work. Also, the University of California at Davis has an on-campus commune known as "Baggins End Innovative Housing." This information was found on the Wikipedia page for J.R.R. Tolkien ( J. R. R. Tolkien - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ).

Also, in a search on Google for Plumpjack, the top hits were for a winery and other businesses in San Francisco.

However, when searching for Montecore, I found that this was the name of the tiger that injured Roy of Siegfried & Roy. Their Las Vegas show closed on October 3, 2003, which was Roy's birthday. Again, the information was found on Wikipedia ( Siegfried & Roy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ) from a search for Montecore.

Again, these references may mean absolutely nothing, but I thought I would mention them for others to ponder.

I apologize for duplicating information in my post above. I just noticed that perchprism posted the Montecore link to Siegfried & Roy in another thread for this floor and I am unable to locate the edit button for the post as discussed in the FAQ. It's probably right under my nose.

    Hi Dion -
There's so much stuff in this forum and on some of the threads at this point, some things are bound to start coming up all over again. It would be hard to process everything that's already been said, and would prevent people from jumping into the game, which is what we need now. I firmly believe that the fresh perspectives are what will help us to break the code and solve these last puzzles.

So no need to apologize. I expect most people would be flattered if someone else validates their observations by posting something a second time.

As for the edit button, it disappears about 15 minutes after you post something. I think the Tweleve site's creators didn't want people endlessly tinkering - or making a thread incoherent - by going back to change things long after the fact. As you discovered, starting a new post on the same thread is a good solution to follow up on something that is more than 15 minutes old.

Speaking of old posts, I will take this opportunity to say that I still think the solution for this floor is TN/I-40/mile 425. If the observation is correct that we should not look for clues where there are red lights, this trio of S/H/M clues can still be derived from the text that goes with Floor 4 and the barbell room and kitchen. They are confirmed by clues on the 12th floor. (One of my current theories is that the 12th floor contributes to solutions on several other floors - makes sense that the brainy Dr. Quello would be the mastermind behind the whole caper!)

So does anyone know someone in eastern Tennessee who could check this out? Or someone driving to Florida for vacation who could pack a shovel and take I-81 or I-40 through Dandridge, TN on the way?
    - Sara

    Beware of red herrings:

The writers wanted us to believe they would integrate the layout of the CORRECT rest area into the puzzle....*grr*

    Default umbrella

There is a hammock on one windowsill with an umbrella over it. The strings on a hammock are called "clews".

On another windowsill (with an egg-shaped window? elliptical?) there is a small barbecue grill next to an umbrella. I believe an early tweet from Twintig gave us the clue "BBQ Sauce = BB Q as cue". So this may be a hint about umbrellas as well.

There is an umbrella stand in Plumpjack's front hallway. 10th and 12th floors also have them.

umbrellas serve to block harmful rays of sun and kind of keep you dry. i think this floors theme is INFRARED/ULTRAVIOLET.
