    Default Salem, New Hampshire?

I am sharing all my ideas here...

If the thermometer is 93 instead of 95,
we can use it for I-93 which runs into New Hampshire
with a rest area at mile marker 1. (time shown on the clock).

New Hampshire is the 8th state in the union.
and there is a small "8" on the lock of the chest
    in the foyer.

    Anyone check there yet?

Here are the clues from the 4th floor:

*There is 2 of everything on this floor and
Pennsylvania is the 2nd state to enter the union

*It uses the "95" from the thermometer for I-95.

*The kitchen cabinets are grouped as 5 and 1 for "51"

*The DE "notes" on the sheet music stand for the Delaware Expressway

Does someone want to go look for me?
(Wisconsin is a bit far to travel.)

(I know that actual numbers for the mile markers are the rule,
but the rule was broken for the 10th floor...stool, snake, spider)
I went to PA 95 mm .5 last night for you - only 1/2 hour from my house (a cakewalk considering I'd spent the previous 14 hours driving up and back to Massachusetts to fruitlessly check out the i-84 mm 1 'solve' for the 9th floor). Unfortunately the Welcome Center in PA at mm .5 is closed, with the entrance ramp blocked by construction barrels. It's in the process of being dug up.

The bag with the single carrot in Sigfried's kitchen has been in my sights for a while (US Rt. 1?). I'm going to force a solve by combining the 5 from the wood chips with the 1 from the carrot, and am on my way to check out that location, but I really don't think there's anything there. In any case we'll be able to scratch PA i-95 from future consideration. Will post again later with the (sure-to-be-disappointing) results.

    The clues provide S H M.

Why are we quick to forget the State clue in our
desperation to resolve the last numbers?

    Ohio, Washington, Vriginia, Indiana, etc...
all had an independent clue beyond the Highway.

I am not saying its wrong to find a highway, but
see if you can find a clue for the state that highway runs
    through.

    Emeraldhunter...
I was looking at exit 51 not .5 as a possible location.
If it is not too far for you to go...I appreciate your
    looking.
    Thanks,

    Tron,
I agree that the state clue should be obvious.
That is why Pennsylvania is my first choice as a state.
The entire floor shouts "2" !!..Pa being the 2nd state.

    New Hampshire is a only a runner-up.

No problem, exit 51 is actually only 15 minutes away from my house - wouldn't that have been something to find one so close? No dice, though. All of the trees there are manicured, with mulch surrounds. At first I thought it was a link to the wood chips but after examination of all, no marker to be seen.

    And on we go.

Default The "5" in the floor bedding

Let's pretend for a moment that the big 5 has nothing to do with the state, highway, or mile. It could simply be a shout out to the five-sided piece of metal nailed to the tree.

    Default South Dakota anagram

Mayor Sara just posted this great piece of anagramming...
The song title is referred to in the text.
It would be a first time for the usage of an anagram to
    denote the state.

The 40th state to join the union was South Dakota.
There is a Welcome Center on I-90 at exit 1 in South Dakota.

I'm having a hard time letting go of the odd coincidence of the orange habitrail tubes and the likeness they share to the twisty orange bark(less) Manzanita Trees I encountered during one of my recent misadventures in Oregon along the I-5.

Check out these pictures, (I admit I added a little orange with my paint program, because the picture doesn't do it justice; you have to be there.
