    Default Do NOT post solutions!!!

According to page 117, article five of the Official Rules of SOTAD,

"In order to receive your ring, YOU MUST KEEP YOUR SOLUTIONS TO THE PUZZLES CONFIDENTIAL. You may not share any solutions, or Sponser may modify, terminate, or suspend the Treasure Hunt."

    What this means:

So we're allowed to DISCUSS puzzles, but not post solves. For example:

"I think the subpoem tells us of a lunar base-8 code."
This is okay, you're CONTRIBUTING to the puzzle, but not providing a solve.

"So by using this code, I applied it to page 94 and came up with ANYPARKNYUSA. I'm off to get a ring!"
Not only is this a bad idea to post a solution and race other people, you will NOT RECEIVE A RING if you do this!

In conclusion, be sure to double check your posts and that you're not giving away a solution. Thanks and happy hunting!

    Yarr,
    Kraka

So, MS's solution to people collaborating and sharing solutions was to make a rule forbidding it? Yeah, I'm sure that will work. Good thing everybody here uses their real names.

I have a feeling solves will be posted. Secrets are very hard to keep.

The thing I'm concerned about is that we don't have control over someone posting a solve. If they do, it could result in the entire hunt being canceled. That would be a bummer!

I might agree IF you were the first one to solve the puzzle and claim the ring. But, what if you solved it independently but were not first and did not get the ring? What would be your motivation for keeping the solution a secret? What if the person who claimed the ring did so using the ideas from your posts?

I can think of plenty of situations where someone would post the solutions.

Also consider the 87 cheapie rings. You don't think one of the 87 winners will tell someone else how to solve the puzzle? If a Twelever gets one of the 87, they will be restricted from getting any more of those 87 rings. Would they not want to clue in their buddies here on how to get another of those?

I think people are reading too much into the "YOU MUST KEEP YOUR SOLUTIONS TO THE PUZZLES CONFIDENTIAL". The defintion of "puzzle" is the thing that provides the redemption instructions for a particular ring. The rules also mention that "clues" must be solved and there is no restriction on sharing clue solutions.

The minute you decode text to tell you how to get a ring is the time you become silent. Up until then, we share away. At some point we will get into a gray area as MS discussed in the reading on Tuesday, but we are far away from that right now.

This is the way I interpreted it by what MS has said. Once you have "the prize" in hand you are not allowed to tell anyone how you came up with the answer to get it. Just like what happened with ATT. The solve to the first puzzle was posted and the others puzzles were solved pretty much immediately after.

Up until then no one really knows if they are right or wrong.

With so many rings attached to one puzzle it's not fair if someone posts the answer and then it will become first come first serve on the rest of the the lot.

Besides why would you want to post the solve before you have your prize then you'll be racing everyone else to get to it which means you may not get one at all.

In the previous hunt no one really knew for sure what was right until the finder verified it. MS just doesn't want verification before the hunt is over to make it fair for everyone else I'm sure.

The solver who claims the prize will not be the one to post the solve. But the solves will be posted. Mark my words.

I say we open the flood gates. If MS really was concerned about all of this solution posting he will have mixed it up enough that it won't unravel like the last hunt.

Personally I cannot wait to see what happens when the first solution is posted.
