I thought it looked more like this, The feathers in this shot are more white but they do have a yellowish tinge.

Yay, lafitte! That's got to be the one; all the field marks visible in Mark's pic seem to match.

Here is another pic from a similar angle to Mark's.

Some info from the Houston Zoo (link):

    Plush-crested jay (Cyanocorax chrysops)

Location:Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay Found in central South America.

Habitat:Woodland, including tropical, and temporate rainforest.

General:The crown feathers are stiff and plush-like extending to the rear as a short crest. The head, sides of the neck, throat, and breast are black, with a spot above the eye that is bright silvery blue. A spot below the eye and a short "moustache" alongside the beak are deep blue. The band behind the bird's neck is milky bluish white becoming violet blue on the upper back. The lower breast and belly are creamy yellowish white. The wings and tail are deep blue with the tail broadly tipped white. The sexes are alike.

Natural Diet:Insects, small animals (including eggs and nestling birds), fruits, and seeds.

    Length:
    Male/Female 14in (35.9cm)

Social Behavior:A typical jay, noisy and inquisitive, which is often observed in small flocks and occasionally in mixed company with other jay species foraging through the forest. Similar to other jays, it is a vocal mimic of other birds.

And from the Saint Louis Zoo (link):

These birds are curious and readily approach humans, sometimes even stealing small objects from them. (May explain why the people seem to be very near the bird in Mark's pic.)

    Virtual birdwatching at its best.

As for me, I thought Mark was referring to the chick, or, as the Brits say, the "bird", in the foreground right. She looks a little like Sophie Pasha from the North End of London, but when I knew her she hadn't dyed her eyebrows. Still, I wouldn't put it past her, she was always a little experimental. Her shoulder line is a pretty exact match.

    Default Name That Bird

    Hey all,

Thanks for the help in determining the bird. I´d like to donate:

100T to lafitte for identifying it.
50T to Sluggy for a great picture. I´ll never forget those hungry eyes at breakfast.
25T to Netsirk for zeroing in on the jays.

I´m posting my last series of pictures and a contest.

First pic is a jacare (a caiman I think) from the river on the Argentine side):
