    the inside of back cover looks like it was spun in a
    centrifuge
    but what does pook,grasshopper,catapillar and spider
    have to do with it and why do it. any ideas

    I haven't done it yet, but it looks like those images my kids brought home from school. you make a cylinder out of aluminum foil or coat a paper towel roll with foil and look at the image's reflection in the foil.

    The inside back cover image was created by taking the inside front cover image, flipping vertically, flipping horizontally, then deform swirling the guts of it. I could probably reproduce this in Photoshop.

    I think it is metaphorical of puzzles in the book.

    Good catch.

    Maybe the swirls are in letter patterns. My 6-year old daughter said it was a maze. "You start here ... and end up here." Who knows, maybe she's on to something.

    Default Back Cover Patterns

    There also are patterns of tiny parchment looking pieces in the inside back cover. It's as if the entire inside back cover used to be covered and most of it has been ripped away.

    The patterns remind me of strings of islands.

    The other difference from the front inside cover is, there are splotches on this page like the others in the "spells" section. It looks like a fingerprint in the top left.
