Default I think the bee is in Salt Lake City

Alright, this is a conglomeration of a couple different things I noticed in a couple of different places in the book, and I've already posted some of these thoughts elsewhere, but I thought I'd compile them here since the bee being in SLC is the closest I've gotten to anything.

But to talk about the bee, I have to take a small digression and talk about the firefly. As I posted earlier in the firefly section, when the Firefly is trying to communicate with Zac it flashes a message to him. How do you communicate by flashing? In Morse code. So that leads me to believe that the Morse Code message on p.31 refers specifically to the firefly. Now, working on the assumption that this is true, we're left with some confusion b/c there is a ladybug in the picture. But if you'll l turn back to page 28, you'll see that the firefly is in the dropcap that starts the chapter. This leads me to believe that perhaps the messages hidden in the big pictures are not directly related to the critters in the same picture, but are in fact referring to a critter found earlier (or later) in the chapter, or in the book. I've not really got that connection fleshed out, but this is a working theory, so maybe someone out there can help me work this part out.

Now onto p41 "An Even Code With On(e) Piece Nary" followed by "Will Spell Out the Sanctuary"

I thought, with reference to this, it could stand some punctuation. An even code with one piece "nary" will spell out "the sanctuary." What this means to me, re-punctuated, is that the even code, one piece of which is the word nary, will spell out "The Sanctuary." So if you take "The Sanctuary and remove "nary" you are left with:

    ASECTHUT

which anagrams to "Utah Sect." What sect (or denomination, if you prefer) is attatched to Utah? Mormons (or LDS, if you prefer) and where is LDS headquarters? SLC.

And I was further convinced by raramom who pointed out the Salt+Lick+Sit+Tea connection (see the p.41 thread for that info).

However the Hummingbird is pictured on the flour container. But as I said earlier, I'm not conviced that the critter on the large picture is the one we're searching for. Look back to p.37, ta-da, the bee.

Furthermore, Utah was originally named "The Provisional State of Deseret," deseret being a Book of Mormon word meaning honey bee. The honey bee is the official state insect and a beehive is represented on the state flag, and a beehive is part of the state emblem.

I'd also like to point out that "The Sanctuary" has 12 letters, an even number. Take about "nary" and you're left with 8 letters, again, even. I think that's why the clue read "an even code..." b/c if you try to anagram just "sanctuary," it would be odd. You'd need "the" to make it even, and to make it work.

I noticed a lot of this as well and I agree. I just haven't been able to narrow down where in Salt Lake City.

I suppose that's the big problem, the *where.* Both of you might want to check out raramom's post. She seemed to have a specific idea.

Altho, as Debz points out in the Salt, Flour, Tea Cup topic, there are 14 states that have the honeybee as their state insect....I'm still liking your thinking process.

Might take a look at Morning Glory Cir. in Riverton...looks like a suburb of SLC. Whaddyathink ?

On a higher level, if someone wanted to flash me or you a very important message, they most certainly wouldn't use Morse. What would they use??

Hummingbirds can be found in Utah. Very interesting hummingbird name, too.

Got me. But it's what Nancy Drew used when she was trapped in an attic with a lantern. She Morsed out SOS and the police came and rescued her. So that's where I was coming from with that one.

Honestly, I live in Ky, and it sounds possible, certainly, but I couldn't know for sure. I have no info about parks, subdivisions, anything like that, personally. I posted this hoping it might be of use to someone further out West, and maybe some Utah dweller could better answer actual location guesses. I'll certainly post if I come up with a specific location, though!

I was thinking more along the lines of what would be used in the real world. Amber Alert comes to mind. We have flash flood warnings all the time where I live. How do they alert you about those? Usually a flashing message scrolling across your tv screen. On the radio, they'll use EBS.

On a smaller level, an establishment may use a flashing neon sign to simply let me know that they're open.

    Again, just a thought.
