Default Head's Up to the Homie G's at Hedquest

    Hi David,

I was gone yesterday so I just now read your email. By the way, I emailed so many publications that I don’t recognize your email address — what publication are you with? Are you interested in doing an article on A Treasure’s Trove?

I’m glad you are interested in A Treasure’s Trove. The only people who know where the solid gold tokens are hidden are the author and his wife, and she may not even know the precise spots, but she did drive cross-country with Michael when they hid the 12 different tokens corresponding to the 12 forest creatures in his book.

I can tell you that Michael and his wife stopped in Fairfield on their drive from New York to the West Coast (then they circled through the South). Michael and his wife never would have stopped in Fairfield except he wanted to meet us and the people producing his TV infomercial — both companies happen to be in Fairfield because Hawthorne Direct recommended us for his audiobook.

I doubt if he put a token in Fairfield, but he did show us one of the tokens. It had a phone number on one side in order to call a law office and redeem the jewel corresponding to the base relief image on the other side. There must be a token within a six-hour radius of Fairfield — his stated intention was to make sure everyone was within a day’s drive of a token. Except, it’s not open to residents of the states of CT, MD, ND and VT.

There aren’t any clues in our audiobook version — clues are only hidden in the text and illustrations of his book. Since July, we’ve had a copy of an early version of his book and I must say his illustrations are fascinating and magnificently intricate. I could barely make out the shape of letters and words made by tree branches and tiny fairy figures on some pages.

The exercises in his companion Puzzle Book are supposed to help “train the eye” to uncover/decipher clues used in the story book , but we don’t have a copy of the Puzzle Book. You can buy the whole kit for only $29.95 plus $7.00 S&H and have the illustrated book along with the double-CD audiobook version, four illustrations suitable for framing, A Treasure's Trove Puzzle Book Companion, and a plush toy depicting the flying dog character.

In case this helps you, I pasted text from his web site below:

In order to claim a jewel, one must find one of the twelve 18K gold tokens, each one redeemable for one jewel, that Stadther has hidden in twelve separate locations throughout the continental USA. "The tokens are not located in caves or underwater, or on mountaintops, or on private property. Nothing has to be moved or lifted to find them. They are hidden in places accessible to everyone," Stadther says.

He emphasizes that the clues leading to the jewels do not require special knowledge to be deciphered. "Anyone who can read can discover the exact location of each treasure -- just the way one of the characters does in the story."

    The official rules state:
Tokens are located in public places, and are not in dangerous locations such as under water, on ledges, mountain tops or in caves. Destruction or destroying any real or personal property is not necessary in order to find the tokens or otherwise participate. Sponsor expressly forbids any such conduct.

Curiously enough, if you do some googling of the main male voice talent from the Hedquist recording of Treasure Trove (don't have the credits in front of me, but I think his name was Brian?) you'll discover he's also involved in yogic flying and the Church of Enlightenment (or somesuch).

I'm not capale of making this up, by the way; check it out.

    Yogic flying.

Note the quote from Geoff Boothby (voice talent at Hedquist who played Zac on CD) at bottom of article. He's also enrolled in the Maharishi school in Fairfield Iowa where Hedquist is located.
