Default I can't help but think that ..................

the author is (in a off the cuff kind of way) in the story, comparing all of us spending time on this treaure hunt to Rusful and maybe Zac to some degree. We are spending less time with our friends and loved one's trying to figure out this puzzle for the jewels. Alot of wasted TIME. The lesson is clear when Zac finally realizes that he need's to connect more with Ana and does this at the end of the story. Thus, showing all of us that we need connect more to our loved one's. The temptation of the jewels though is to great of a temptation for alot of us to see that to focus on our loved one's is the solution. Thus, the real winners and solution solvers are one's that shun the puzzle and the jewels and spend more time connecting with our loved one's. I admit, the puzzle is tempting but it's actually harder to shun the puzzle to spend time with loved one's than it is to actually solve the token riddles.
    Puzzle solved..........

    Hmmmm...

    Oddly familiar.

    Actually, jr...

This "hunt" is connecting my kids and I together in a pretty nice way. Even the 2 older ones who TRY to pretend they're not interested in it will take a look now & then and give me their views.

My 8 yo is VERY interested because this is the kind of thing her age *loves*. She's having fun talking with her friends about it, too... pretty remarkable for a shy child.

Even my husband finally picked the book up last night and started asking questions.

I don't even pretend I'd find anything. But the fun is in the hunt, and in the sharing.

I think you must not have children, or you'd see that.

I like that..... "actually". I have two girls 6 and 9. Just like your kids they were into it and it was fun holding pages up to the mirror etc.... After a while though their school work and sports demanded more attention than the book. The book is then left to the adults to ponder. It's a good story but there are some very menacing words that are used for such young innocent ears. You can have kid's and still see that the book will use up more of the adults time alone than with the children with their parents.

Sounds like it's time for you to put the book down then and move on with your life.

    Bye.

I think the truth may be somewhere in between, and it's up to each of us to find our own happy medium that works for us and our families. I had a tough time juggling the competing desires of possibly attending the booksigning today or spending time with family that was in from out of town. On a more daily basis, I'm starting to schedule days "off" the hunt. I don't know the secret for when to chose one or the other if you can't have both, but I think we all need to follow our heads and follow our hearts.

I do it when I have spare time and no family obligations... baby and my wife are generally asleep by 830 and I generally go to bed at midnight so that gives me a solid few hours each night.

I know what you men, but my children love this! I have 4 - 2,4,6 and 11. Even my little two year old is "discovering" things - pionting things out in a cute little 2 year old way- very excited. I got the kids little spy sets with binoculars, special lights etc. and they are really into it. My hubby is maybe suffering a bit but even he is getting interested - though is very annoyed when I don't agree with his take on things.
I think it all depends on HOW you go about the hunt - by involving or excluding your loved ones - and that is a choice we make.

    Anyway,that's just my take.
    just lil ol me
