    Default vacation spots

Hello all. Since you all have been helpful with everything here, I thought you might like to offer up an opinion on the best vacation spots.

Does anyone know about any great family vacation spot near/on a beach that also has great pools? Looking in all price ranges.

Need help soon... we want to travel in July.

    You guys are the best!

I don't know what area of the country you're interested in but if you are planning to be anywhere near Panama City, FL I think you might like this place. We go there every year to escape Mardi Gras. There's also a mini golf/walk-through maze in the area. The maze was a-mazing!

Hey Mac- I can suggest a few places in NC/SC beaches. If it's family wholesomeness you're looking for, try Ocean Isle beach or Sunset Beach. They're both a short drive from Myrtle, where more action is. Close to Calabash, with some good seafood, and of course, LOTS of golf courses if you want to search trees while you're there!

I was also going to suggest somewhere around Panama City, FL: Destin. I have been to a number of beaches, and Destin is absolutely my favorite. The sand is thick and white, and the water is much more clear than the Gulf west of the Mississippi delta or the beaches I've been to on the Atlantic and Pacific. Obviously, being in America, you don't have to worry about another language or currency. The best place I stayed in Destin was the Sandestin Hilton (grandma was paying, so I'm not sure of the price).

Not sure if this is what your looking for, but Wisconsin Dells...There are numerous hotels that have water parks located on site, with some that have water parks inside the hotels. Not to mention all the attractions in and around the city its self...You could easily spend a week here and there is something to do for everyone.

    Mack,
Which coast were you thinking of? I was going to suggest Clearwater (where I live) or St Petersburg, FL. The beaches are beautiful here, we're in the middle of the Gulf coast, so within driving distance of a lot of attractions, including 2 hrs from Disney World, and an hr from Busch Gardens. But, July is brutal for heat and humidity! Not to mention, it's during 'hurricane season', although they don't usually get busy until Aug and Sept. If you can stand the humidity (I can't! LOL), there's plenty to do around here!

    Thanks you guys!

I'm checking into some of the places you've mentioned. They look really great!

It always helps when you have someone that can say, "hey, this place is great!" I get nervous just trying something new with the kids and all. If it was just me, I'll do anything... but you know kids!

I'll gladly take any other suggestions that come along!

Like I said, I looove you guys.

I'm getting misty... talk amongst yourselves... I'll give you a topic... the chickpea: it's neither a chick nor a pea... discuss.

    much love,

    Mack,
If you know what a garbanzo/chickpea is, and come to the Tampa Bay area, I highly recommend stopping for a meal at the Columbia Restaurant! They're celebrating 100 yrs in operation, have 6 restaurants now, with the original in Ybor City (a sort of 'little Cuba' suburb of downtown Tampa). Their Paella is to die for, but you should also try a '1905 Salad' and 'Spanish Bean Soup'! Not only is the chickpea not a chick nor a pea, but 'Spanish Bean Soup' is also not from Spain! LMAO! :P

Two other Wisconsin spots to think about: Door County, Wisconsin. "The thumb" of Wisconsin - surrounded by water - lots of hotels, restaurants, bike riding, miniature golf, shopping, antiques, etc.

And the Minoquoa area of Wisconsin - for the true North Woods feel - plenty of fishing lakes, cabin-type resorts. Again, a lot of recreation areas abound.

    Have fun on your vacation!

Places I would NOT recommend: Branson, MO. My husband still blames me for that choice.
