Default Magellan 2005 Geocache contest begins May 23

Even if you are not a geocacher, this is a fun annual contest. Magellan (the maker of GPS units) has hidden 30 boxes containing various goodies in cities throughout the U.S.

Over a 10-week period, clues are given out regarding the locations. Although the last clue for each box is a GPS coordinate, the first several clues are more riddle-like and narrow down the location to a city or a park - so you don't need a GPS unit to participate.

Last year Magellan had a message board where hunters throughout the country shared their thoughts - very similar to Tweleve.org. Prizing a solution out of the riddle-clues is challenging - it's a thrill to narrow down a location before the final confirming GPS clue is given.

If you are interested, you can register at www.magellangps.com beginning May 23.

Mmmm yes. For some reason, weeks of frustration have only hardened my desire to find something good and dig it up! I like the sound of this very much, and I think with all the practice we've had, we could dominate this new hunt. Magellan won't know what hit em.

Well, everyone is now spastically counting to 5 over the ATT book (man, how much longer will ATT last??) But this new hunt also seems like a great way to get out of the house.

I registered at the site, but didn't see if there was anything special than just having an account there. If you guys want, I can set up a new board, just for the GPS hunt.

We must be near a black hole because time is accelerating so quickly lately. Work out of town for a week and it seems half the tokens are gone; take my kids to an amusement park for 2 days and the 1st 3 magellan locations are found.

Destructo - this thread may be sufficient for those following the Magellan hunt. BUt i'll let you decide - when Magellan #4 comes up, i'll start using this thread for thoughts.

The Magellan hunt isn't capitivating me like last year - it's probably overshadowed by all the hoo-rah on ATT.

Anyway - for those that are interested, but not enough to prowl the Magellan GPS sites, the latest caches are:

    #7 - Dallas, TX area
    #8 - NYC
#9 - Illinois, maybe Chicago (and the clue contained an anagram - aaahhh!!!)
