    Default is anyone else disappointed?

its great that the tokens have been found but the solutions for the most part are boring. They all use the same grid, are all gotten from just the pictures - no text needed here folks - , the solutions are not specific - in fact they are quite vague. just show up to a park and start looking...!?!? the solutions are pretty much 'brute force' as my calculus teacher in college used to say. just keep looking for pairs of numbers that make sense...hell write a program to generate combinations for you(yeah any child can do that!)
MS said that if someone gets one of them he may get a few more but not all. well so far every solution has been the same as far as im concerned...almost noone is getting the solution through ingenuity - just by keep trying combinations! even the lady bug (who many thought would be related to colors) was just a pairing of dash sizes. besides the snail, which somewhat had a key, the rest of the puzzles were all luck(as far as how to start or assign to the grid). the spider, beetle, ant and hummingbird will also be gotten from a combination of some leaves, dandelion seeds or woodgrain .... just a matter of time before someone stumbles upon the solution. and no this is not sour grapes. just disappointment.

Actually - yes. Hoping for more complexity and a search that would last until 2007!

    YES
If only to excuse the poor writing or editing in the story. I’d like to believe that those almost unbelievably awkward words, phrases, punctuation, and word breaks were deliberate in order to provide clues hidden in the sentences or to position the letters on the page.
And so, I’d like to believe that there are clues in the text which tell one how to find and group the coordinates, and that these smarter-than-I and determined solvers are bypassing these clues with insight plus “brute force” methods.

I've been keeping my hope for text clues alive, though I think I've looked at too many fruitless possibilities (esp all those strangely hyphenated words).

If it turns out that each puzzle has both picture and text solutions (still looking for that) I'll probably think it was pointless since the pictures are so obviously full of clues and the text is indecipherable (to me).

So yep, kind of disappointed that there hasn't been more variety in what's required to solve.

I couldn't be more thrilled with the book than I have been! It is very well constructed, with nice pictures, an interesting hiding/puzzle scheme, and a cute children's story. There are clues in the text, clues in the pictures, and clues everywhere. If you have trouble with understanding how to solve the puzzles, there is even the nice companion book that helps explain different ways to make puzzles.

As for the rapid discovery of the tokens and the "lack of foresight" I think that the only unanticipated thing for MS was how freely people shared information over the Internet, which accelerated the solution finding dramatically. Even with a collective brain working out the book, it still took nearly 6 months before even the first token was found and redeemed! Without the aid of this collective brain, I know that I would still be stuck working out what he means by "code of numbers, 5 to a side".

Kudos to the author for making such a nice book that has provided fun, family entertainment to thousands of us!!

Disappointed? Yes. I was hoping for a variety of puzzles, some including the text.

You're right about that, MS had said as much in some interviews and at many booksignings.

I too was kind of let down that the text didn't play into these solutions. The wording and strange sentences that we've picked over for months just seemed like an important piece at the time. Then again, maybe when this thing is all over MS will point out connections we just overlooked or were clear connections to him but not us.

I can pretty much guarantee that the next book he comes up with has solutions that aren't related so closely. Websites like these are a factor that he didn't think would pop up and share info so openly. I'm sure that the fact that only 40,000 copies in his first run meant he didn't see the popularity of this thing blowing up with websites and the like.
