Default What if Elrohir never posted how he found the token

Do you think the hunt wouldn't have turned into a race??

I mean, the same technique was used for all tokens...then the whole Bee/catapiller thing, etc.

I wonder if MS figured the net would be so sharing?

congrats to the token finders...however I did lose interest after some people turned sour and Rusful-like.

I have actually thought about this topic quite a bit, as you might imagine. There are two key points to be made:

    1) While I certainly did not hold back any secrets on how I found Dragonfly, the full and explicit solution was actually posted by others immediately after I announced the find. Very similar to Spider going missing, and then the solution being deduced and posted.

    2) At the time of Dragonfly, none of us had any inkling that the other twelve would use the exact same method/grid. If you look at those old posts, that is a main topic of discussion, as to how we were supposed to know to use the "simple" ABCDE grid. We had all been focused on determining how to populate the grid, based on "Grid Clues" on each page. Funny to see that concept resurfacing with Beetle, btw...

Overall the mechanism being the same on all puzzles, grid + map, I can see. Why he chose to make every grid identical still strikes me as being "too" simple. But maybe that is just overanalyzing again.

But I have to say that I had always thought prior to finding the token that if I ever did find anything, I would share it, since I had gained and learned so much here through what others had shared.

I posted the detailed solution after Elrohir's find. Yes, it was a similar chronology to that of the Spider. But, there was a big difference. The Dragonfly was the first find, and I had no reason to think they would all be so similar.

    I regret posting the method.

Rusty, I think that was bound to happen after the first find, regardless. The excitement level was just way too high. I regret more that the methods were all identical!

Right, I agree (I think I posted somewhere yesterday I thought it was going to get out no matter what).

Here is a sobering thought for you, though. That morning, you were the only one that KNEW the complete solution and that it was verified to be correct. You had up to 30 days to keep it to yourself before claiming the token. Stadther had just checked on the token, so was unlikely to do so again very soon.

You could have kept your find a secret, and went on to grab many more tokens. Like you said, the solutions were identical, and you certainly would have been able to solve a bunch of them.

Honestly, I had no desire to do that. I was so happy to find one, that's all I ever wanted. And I am having as much fun watching others and their families find them, it's hard to explain.

On top of that, each of these has had a little "twist", which you need to solve to crack each puzzle. I had the exact method for Snail long before Dragonfly was found, but I wasn't getting the "twist"-- which I found right after Starthinker found and revealed the solution. And like many out there, I was trying Red X's for Spider, but I had the numbers in the X ordered incorrectly, and furthermore I didn't know what to do with knots with more than two red dots. He's devious, that MS!

Now back to Beetle...the most devious of all, until the solution is revealed!

It's interesting to speculate if multiple tokens would have been found by the same people, and i think there is a good chance that might have happened, but i think that they would have been found by at least a few different teams. Pack and his team knew, Elrohir did, my team got 5 of them concurrent with the finds, and I'm sure there were several others.
Some people's chances on a token would have been better without solutions posted, but obviously, some people's chances got better. That's just the way it went. I had fun on my trips either way.

My heart was racing as I got on that first plane to Iowa, but once I was sitting there looking out the window as the plane taxied, I got a big grin and said to myself, "I am actually chasing a treasure across the country. And dam*, jet engines are cool." I'll always have that, and I'll have the fact that i saw places in this beautiful country I would have never even known existed. All good stuff.

There are one or two more chances for a multiple winner...
