    Default Things I'm Thankful for...

Well, 384 years ago the Pilgrims were thankful for not being shot on site by the Natives and for cashing in their first crop. If only the Natives knew that they'd have to endure three centuries of long marches and crappy as hell reservations before they'd get their gambling licenses, and if the Pilgrims figured out that Cannabis would prove much more profitable than wheat and corn, perhaps today would be different. But as it is, it's one day set aside for football watching and overeating. Oh, and for giving thanks. For football. And overeating.

So, in between turkey and stuffing binges and during the commercials, perhaps now is as good of a time as any to think about the things you really are thankful for. I'll give it a start.

I'm thankful for my Grandma. Grandparents are great because they spoil you and rarely enforce the rules. They are a window to a different time. When you are an infant they are as nurturing as a parent, but you get to return the favor when they need you in their later years for their lost mobility.

I'm thankful for four wheel drive. The world is an amazing and beautiful place and most of it isn't paved. So, unless you're the backpack 46 miles into the wild type, 4x4s are the ticket to getting away from the rest of the people who are trapped on concrete and asphalt.

I'm thankful for the Japanese. Not only did their sneaky bombs jump start us into becoming the kick ass super power we are today, they're also really good at making little plastic devices that are good for hours and hours of entertainment. Maybe one day I can even forgive them for Pokemon.

I'm thankful for the French. No matter how bad you think our government screws everything up, all you have to do is look to the French to feel better about yourself. Given the recent riots around Paris, you might think that the Islamofascist movement is rearing it's ugly head. The truth is, those kids just have good taste in cars and are ridding the world of the eyesores that are French vehicles. The Peugeot has got to go.

I'm thankful for power outages. Every once and a while it's a beautiful thing to have all the humming go silent, all the screens go dark, and all the "conveniences" become useless. All too often we allow our possessions to own us, it's nice to let them know that perhaps, if you really needed to, you could get along without them.... at least for a few hours.

Spell Check. That way I can pretend to be literate and educated, especially online. Now, if they could only figure out a way to electrocute people when they confuse "your" with "you're," and hopefully turn up the voltage when they use "ur" or "yur." Still, why is 'intelligent' so hard to spell???

Oooo Ooooh I'm also thankful for the Broncos, who had every call go against them, unless it was challenged, and still showed up the Cowboys (america's team my bum!) in their home stadium on Thanksgiving!!! GO BRONCOS!

I'm thankful for Food Network, a surprisingly interesting channel to watch when you get a chance. Rachel Ray's stuffin' muffins were a real hit, and Alton Brown's tip to brine the turkey and not bake the stuffing inside the bird made for the most moist and flavorful white meat I've ever had.... and I'm usually the first one in line to steal a thigh or drumstick to avoid the dehydrated white meat. Hello brine, good bye basting!!!

I'm also thankful for cell phones. I hate the things and have avoided getting one until absolutley necessary. But tonight on the way home from grandma's, while I was driving my parents and my aunt, we were saved from being killed by a drunk driver by a short brick wall that separated the two lanes of traffic on an inconspicuous turn. I saw the other driver approching us at high speed and we were directly on the other side of the small wall (3 feet or so) when the driver colided with the wall when he couldn't hold the curve, throwing sparks, brick fragments and his side mirror over the wall and onto our car. A quick call on the cell phone and one idiot driver off the road. So yeah, thanks for cell phones and 3 foot high brick walls and for cops who work holidays.

Holli, you will never know exactly how much your words affect me. Thank you for being so forthright this year. It is a tremendous gift to others that you can share your experience so freely.

Today I'm thankful for love. Timeless love, the kind that supercedes physical restraints of aging and bad health, that makes you forget the wrinkles and the sags and the deep cough and the snores. The kind that makes you glad to get up every morning. Kristen's kind of love. Hope Stout's kind of love. I am immensely thankful for this feeling, today and every day. Especially today.

That's a really good thing to be thankful for--priceless!

Me, I'm thankful right now for south Texas balmy short-sleeve weather in November. Thanks for the warm Gulf breezes that we get sometimes even in December and January. Thanks for the palm trees and all the other nice subtropical plants that make it through every winter here (even though we do usually get a couple freezes every year).

A couple weeks ago I did have suffer through a mild cold front with low temps in the 40's, it took me off guard and I came down with a cold (I'm still coughing). But for now it's back to normal balmy 70 degree weather is back and the breeze is from the south again. Thanks Mother Nature!

I wanted to pull out this old thread to let you all know that I'm thankful for your company, wit, intellect, and charm. I'm grateful most for the relationships that have developed off-forum. Thanks for sharing yourselves even the tiniest bit with me, whether in the creative corner, chat, or in a treasure hunt; I'm very thankful to be part of this community.

    With great respect and warmest wishes for a bountiful table tomorrow and always;

    Carol

I'm Thankful that I have been home for the holidays every year of my marriage in spite of two deployments and that my brother is home from Iraq to be with his wife.

I am thankful for so many things
thankful for the wonderful people in my life - family and friends -
both those with me today in my home and those who can't be but are here in my heart
thankful to be well enough to go my job 5 days a week and thankful I have a job to go to
thankful for this site and all the wonderful friends here - only other internet site I visit as frequently is Neopets ( and we all know that's a fantasy world - lol - though fun! ) Here I am thankful for the real people I am getting to know - more each day and each post
Thankful that my newest son-in-law came home from Iraq a week ago Tues and will be here with us today after nearly a year long deployment - and that he came home in one piece and whole
so many things to be grateful for - could go on and on - but time to head to the kitchen and do the mom/grandmere thing

enjoy the day my friends!! Thank you for being here
