Default How did you start armchair treasure hunting?

    Hey there everyone.

Not sure if there is a topic about this, tried searching for it but couldn't find anything. I was just wondering how everyone out there got into A.C.T.H. (Armchair treasure hunting)

I guess I'll go first since i'm posting the topic LOL. It started for me when I went to see the movie National Treasure in the theatre. After seeing the movie, I wanted SOOO badly to do something just like that. I went online to search for treasure hunts and just came up with really, run away from people with guns, dodge large blades and jump out of the way from the hugh stone rock, kind of treasure hunts. Which was alittle out of my league at that moment...Just a little

And then two days after I saw the movie, I was watching the Today show. And that day they happened to have a guy with the initials MS on the show. They told a preview about the segment coming up about him and I was in a bind. I had to leave for work! But needless to say, I was late for work that day. LOL After I got home from work that very day, I placed my order for the book and as they say, the rest is history.

Well, that's how I started. Look forward to reading all of your stories.

    until next time...
    Zimmer.

    Good topic!

My wonderful grandmother bought me a copy of Masquerade when I was maybe 4 or 5. That was all it took. I swear that had such a huge impact on me too. Really was one of the first "cool" things that I ever was turned on to (it wasn't Legos or more blocks lol). It was the beginning of my facination with treasure, puzzles, fantasy, art, the world as a global place....

    Thanks Guzzy! (and Kit!)

    cthree,

    I have a book for you. It's sort of a puzzle/Artistic book.

    The Ultimate Alphabet

    http://www.mike.wilks.dsl.pipex.com/home.html

This book contains 26 painting each represents a letter of the alphabet.

There or thousands of references to each letter with in the paintings.

On each page you have to find a snail, morse code, sign language, ect... for each letter.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS BOOK FOR CHILDREN

Some artistic nudity (some what edgy)

He also has done a few other books in this same manner however they can also be a little on the edge.

I got a copy back in the 80's and have pick up the book from time to time and to this day i will say it still amazes me some of the stuff I find.

    cthree,

I wouldn't say I am a big armchair hunter more of a seeker. I like finding things that have been hidden, things that or not supposed to be found. It becomes a passion. If I know there is something out there to be found I have to be the first to find it. I would be the only kid on the block that couldn't wait to go to the dentist just to see the highlights magazine, so I could find the hidden object in the hidden picture pages. Then Where's Waldo came out I couldn't get enough of this stuff. To this day I still get excited when my kids bring home one of those Eye Spy books from the library.

Now the internet has given me a whole new play ground to find what has been hidden or simply is out there to be found.

I have to say that Google is one of my favorite tools when searching and if you find that interesting take a look at the image I have attached.

It would seam that MS's new publishing Co. is going to be at a book Expo in May and look who is right next store to them.

If only I could be there.

Ok, ok. I've being poked and prodded here ! I guess you could say I began with Paul Adshead's Puzzle Island book. A friend had let me borrow it when I was about 10. After scouring and solving it within a couple weeks I moved on to the Eleventh Hour and started actively looking for puzzle books. Fast forward 10+ years and you have a bored me looking for a new puzzle challenge. I see an article in the paper in Dec '04 about ATT. I didn't know you could actually win something from solving puzzle books!! From there I've been immersed in the ATH culture. Its given me an endless amount of puzzles to keep my overactive brain busy!

Come on now share how you found out about ATT (A Treasures Trove) or ATH (Armchair Treasure Hunting!!)
