    Default mods how would it

    it work for this forum if branch of gov. says keep and give up and or report activity (opinion wanted)
    what part of constition says when and where can gov. intercede my problem with this is in a forum ie:

    A public meeting or assembly for open discussion
    A public facility to meet for open discussion

    not sure if this is where this goes move if you think
    it should be.

    my opinion
    i know the terreorists have a foot hold but our basic rights can not
    be superceded ( maybe the jobs we were paying, for should have been
    done better in the 70s)

    [forum] comes under 1st amendment
    i think what we call gov. has run amuck {our fault}

    Here's what s/he's talking about... below a good summary from a conservative group about the subversion of our Constitution. Though the Constitution provides us freedom from unwarranted search and seizure the current US Govt has decided that they can search and seize anything they want to--without oversight from Congress or the Judicial branch--because of the terrorist threat. In short, Bush has claimed undemocratic dictatorial powers and the Republican Congress has not pushed back. This is not an exaggeration.

    If the notion of GWB with dictatorial powers does not frighten you, then perhaps the notion of Hillary Clinton with dictatorial powers does.

    Sorry to get political... saw an opportunity to educate.

    ---------------------------------------

    Document: http://www.cato.org/pubs/wtpapers/po...ealy_lynch.pdf

    ---------------------------------------

    Executive Summary

    In recent judicial confirmation battles, President Bush has repeatedly—and correctly—stressed fidelity to the Constitution as the key qualification for service as a judge. It is also the key qualification for service as the nation's chief executive. On January 20, 2005, for the second time, Mr. Bush took the presidential oath of office set out in the Constitution, swearing to "preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States." With five years of the Bush administration behind us, we have more than enough evidence to make an assessment about the president's commitment to our fundamental legal charter

    Unfortunately, far from defending the Constitution, President Bush has repeatedly sought to strip out the limits the document places on federal power. In its official legal briefs and public actions, the Bush administration has advanced a view of federal power that is astonishingly broad, a view that includes

    * a federal government empowered to regulate core political speech—and restrict it greatly when it counts the most: in the days before a federal election;
    * a president who cannot be restrained, through validly enacted statutes, from pursuing any tactic he believes to be effective in the war on terror;
    * a president who has the inherent constitutional authority to designate American citizens suspected of terrorist activity as "enemy combatants," strip them of any constitutional protection, and lock them up without charges for the duration of the war on terror— in other words, perhaps forever; and
    * a federal government with the power to supervise virtually every aspect of American life, from kindergarten, to marriage, to the grave.

    President Bush's constitutional vision is, in short, sharply at odds with the text, history, and structure of our Constitution, which authorizes a government of limited powers.

    This elitist mentality has no place on this gaming forum.
    The use of the word "educate" in your post suggests we are dullards with no sense of the world.

    Please leave your bias at home, or draft an opinion-editorial piece for your local newspaper.

    Thank you.

    1. A lot of the stuff in my post and the linked document is hardly common knowledge and some of it is pretty arcane. Hardly an insult to think people might not be aware of it.

    2. The initial post was also not really gaming-related, it was related to privacy and how it intersects with the forum, and I expect this thread to be moved to the Blunt Chisel (if that is technically possible?) where all topics are fair game.

    3. If I didn't think it were important, I wouldn't have posted it.

    4. My own personal bias is currently left/democratic... that is why I chose a conservative/republican source...

    5. I have tremendous respect for the intellect of many posters on this board and meant no disrespect. Quite the opposite. If I started a topic on quantum mechanics would that be elitist too?

    6. Expecting our government to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution is not elitist, it is the essence of being an American.

    7. This was not spam. It was on topic. If you don't think the topic is in the appropriate place or appropriate at all campaign for the mods to move it or delete it. I'm sorry if you don't like the topic. It's like TV, you don't have to watch a particular channel.

    8. If the moderators tell me I have broken some sort of rule I will retract/comply. I respect the rules of the board. Other posters telling me to be quiet however won't have the same effect and I found your post offensive--as you would too if I told you to stick it and go away... which I'm not, of course.
