    Default Weight loss support group!

I thought I would start a thread for those of us who are trying to lose weight. We can discuss our goals, our techniques, what works, what doesn't, foods that work, restaurants that offer good diet choices and anything else we can think of.
What are you doing to reach your goal? What exercise plan are you on and what diet plan?

I'll go first. I bought a tread mill and use it every other day for 30 min at a pace that I work up a sweat. I am using the weight watchers points plan. I started my diet back in early November and I have lost 14 pounds!
Has anyone tried those new "skinny cow" ice cream sandwiches? They are only 3 points and are so good!
Applebee's has a menu with some weight watchers meals. I like the chicken sandwich, don't care for there fish meal.

    My wedding diet.....

I'm doing the Adkins diet. Last time I did this diet I lost 35lbs in 3 months.
Gained it all back because of an extensive knee surgery that left me non-mobile for a year, other wise it would have stayed off. Just started it up again yesterday. I have a Gazelle (low impact on the knee) use it for 30 mins a day for the 1st week, 45 mins a day for the 2nd week, 1hr a day week 3 and there after. I have found that this diet works best for me. TGI Fridays has an Adkins friendly menu...3 carb cheesecake that is too die for!!! I try to stay under 20 carbs a day. It's actually not as hard as you might think!

Mrs. W and I did atkins for almost a year. Lost a bunch of weight, but I missed fruits so much I couldn't do it any longer.

Now we do weight watchers, just count points, and it works great. If we stay on our points, we lose weight.

If you've never tried it, you should!

I love this idea! I will also go on the Atkins diet. I think we all have that one diet plan that works best for us individually. Netsirk and I will both be married in April and if I'm going to the beach on the honeymoon, I don't want a divorce before I get back. My newly acquired thighs would scare the heck out of Casper the friendly ghost.

Honestly, I used to run before I met my fiancee and since I've started dating, I've gained. I don't have time to run! The year before I met him, I think I missed 10 days the whole year not running and I think this year I got to run possibly 10 times. Its awful. I want to run again or at least walk.

Well, to start my diet off, I gave up sweets to kick-start the plan. Also, I know its not lent, but I gave them up and I'm fasting and praying for a friend who has lost her voice that she will get it back. I hope it works and its also a good way to jump-start my diet. It gave me a really good reason to start it. I was more willing to do it for someone else than myself.

Also, I don't look at the scales. I get paranoid with them. I will only tell you how much I've lost and when I can get back in my 10's. Then, I'll celebrate! Not to mention I will have to have my wedding dress altered!

It feels good to finally make the decision to make a change! Let's do it!
I'm ready. I'm going to a Tea House with the girls from the office tonight to have our little Christmas celebration and we will have high tea and you know what that means. I will need help. I'm into day three and no sweets so far. Mimi, we need sugar free! Help! Wish me luck.

Wow! Congrats Benz on your decision. Just keep the faith. Sweets are totally out of the question if you're serious about losing. I will suggest trying the "weight watchers" frozen treats or the "skinny cow" frozen treats. You get to satisfy your sweet tooth without blowing your diet.
One a day or one every other day( depending on your plan) is okay and I am still losing. I might lose more if I didn't eat one but this way I stick with the diet and don't blow the whole thing.
I often find one bite of the hubby's desert works too. I get the taste without the guilt. I just look at it and say " I will reach my goal".
I am 1/3 of the way on my diet before I reach my goal but I am still truckin along.

Lindenmi....thanks for the advise. I will write those down and get them on my next grocery visit. Congratulations to you also on your success. I wish I could steal a bite, and maybe I will later, but with the fast, I will keep my promise. I will try the fast for 3 or 4 weeks and then I'll be running around with my fork...

I also want to suggest the "weight watchers " brand yogurts. They are really good tasting. I am still trying there frozen dinners and don't really know what to make of most of them. Not super tasty but......I guess everything can't be.
This diet is really a change of habit. Out with the old in with the new. It seems to be the only way it works for me. I feel alot better now that I eat very healthy too.

what's a Gazelle? I have a knee injury - so other than what's necessary at work - I don't exercise - I would love to lose about 15 pounds - maybe 20 I eat fairly light already - fairly healthy with vitamin supplements
never really dieted before - just since car accident - (getting hit while delivering mail new years day 2 years ago) gotten too sedentary
what can i do? any ideas

I have the Gazelle Freestyle Elite it is a low-impact, aerobic workout and resistance training machine mirrors natural walking motion, targeting your triceps, quads, calves, glutes, biceps and back muscles.
There are different models of the Gazelle. You can get them from Target.com, Amazon.com, or on Tony Little's website - http://www.tonylittle.com/SearchResu...x?CategoryID=1
I recommend them if you have knee or back injuries because it is very low impact. Since my 3 knee surgeries, I can no longer run on the treadmill, run track or anything like that.
I only use the Gazelle and sometimes the stationary bike, and of course swimming but not this time of the year
