FYI - if you click on the first photo, you can see them larger than thumbnails.

Thanks, Net and Mark! There are about 300 photos on this site, and I doubt you can find many where the people of Barcelona aren't smiling. For some reason the link takes you to page 2; be sure to find page one and check out the firefighter marathon! Hubba.

LOL, I do believe I may have caught a glimpse of a mosaic LIZARD in there.

That is Gaudi asking to play the tag game too.

Carol, thanks for posting the pictures, it is nice to see that home still looks great.

So what did you like better? la Boqueria with all the colors (and catching slogans), Montserrat (I am glad that if you were going to have only one sunny day it was there), Gaudi, Santa Maria del Mar?

Did you join the sardana dancers?

That, Gabi, is almost as silly a question as "what souvenir should I bring home from Spain?" lol

I really can't pick a favorite thing that we did. Gaudi made quite an impression, especially Casa Batllo. We were literally kicked out after closing time there; we didn't want to leave!

Aside from that, the thing that stands out most is how each generation in Barcelona has embraced the next, with its own unique artistic style. The feel of the city reminded me very much of a grandmother who hugged her children, and their children, and warmly respected their genius. I guess Sagrada Familia is the best example of that, but you could feel it most everywhere. The wide variance in artistic styles led me to think that it was acceptable to be whoever you wanted to be in Barcelona. (hence the smiles, eh?) There is art in every square inch of the city, whether in lighting, mosaics, the streets themselves, statuary, classic museums, or architecture. Barcelona expresses itself well.

For those of you not in the know, Gabi worked hard for us before our trip. She emailed me suggestions for places to visit and eat, and even gave me tips about the T-10 ticket on the subway! She claims it was a labor of love, but it was still work, I'm sure, to do that for us. Many many thanks to Gabi for her generous donation of time and expertise! She can tell you, we took plenty of her advice, and I think we have a great appreciation for why she loves that city so. Then again, the reasons I liked Barcelona so are the same reasons I've come to like Gabi, too. They're one and the same: kind people who embrace life and others.
