    My SWAG Token Puzzle:

as I was signing some tokens (and I did this on 8-8-08, a little after 8:00 AM) I devised a bit of a contest to attach to the souvenirs I was leaving with 12R3'ers

I numbered each of 48 tokens which featured SOME of the bugs that M Stadther used on his gold tokens for ATT....

I found these in a craft store and they were enough to use (although if I weren't starting the project late I would have loved to have all of the bugs used)

Caterpillar, Dragonfly, Beetle, Bee, Butterfly (in different sizes and colors)

The only direction I gave the guests was that ONE and only one of the tokens had a special significance and correct number for the numbering system I had invented...

They could swap tokens, look at each others, or merely reason out the premise and then tell me which token and number and WHY it was correct!

About an hour into the game I gave my only clue on a scrap of paper:

it was the word ATE with a box drawn around it

I also placed the clue atop one of the books I brought along:
"The Official Answer Book for A Treasures Trove by Michael Stadther"

Can any of you out there come up with an answer?
    (separate post will explain)

    pac
(P.S. a group of trovers got to the crux rather quickly and then CRYPTIC supplied me with the correct token, which he did not have to physically have)

    SWAG token puzzle answer

As the clue (ATE SQUARED) signified, if you turned to page 64 in the book, you would see a map of the 48 contiguous states that MS hid his tokens...

the map also featured the states where the tokens were hid....they were color-coded, but using different colors for me was simply a RED herring

I heard early on someone in the solving group say: "What if we need to find the token and the numbered state as it was admitted to the Union"?

Now this was indeed on the correct path to solution, so I knew it was only a matter of time...

I stated that without the physical tokens, they might reason out a "back-door" solution as to why I picked a certain state/bug/numbered token over another...

A good guess from MOSCOW32 was Pennsylvania because we were picnicking here...

    Close but no cigar...

Since they did not have internet access and could not research the order of states entering into the Union, I felt badly and pulled out of my pocket a folded-up copy I had made

    At this point CRYPTIC announced:

BUTTERFLY (North Carolina) with a "12" numbered on it because we were celebrating a Tweleve reunion...

    tada

I don't know that I would have even gotten that right - I've heard two different pronunciations for it.

and both were probably acceptable....remember, this was a "subjective" question, as I graded from 1-5 points
