    Exclamation

just got power back - all the ice seems to have hit Kentucky - I had electric heat has been hovering about 34 in the part of my house (1 room) where I was using a single small heater that works on 1 pound propane tanks that have to be changed every 5 hours - (leaving it on low setting so the tanks(which are in very limited supply in this area right now!) would last longer
    - delivering mail has been a true adventure
looks like some surreal war zone around here - our schools may not open for another week -
one of my daughters and her hubby and 3 kids are here tonight - still looking for a generator as their power may be out another week
going to be seriously seeking adding alternate heat to my house before next winter
I did have stove topcooking - but oven is electric driven - no knob to start gas to light with match - done by some small computer - so sad - but did make some mean beef stew on top the stove that I usually do in a crock all day

i have had no time to take pics while delivering - dodging trees - driving over - under and around power lines - trees - not a happy kind of adventure - I did manage to deliver all but about 55 of my almost 500 families today - hope to serve more tomorrow maybe I can get couple of pics

there are nearly 60 more days left of winter - tired now- must rest up
two nights ago I couldn't sleep more than 10-15 minutes at a time for the constant barrage of snapping limbs and trees falling and crashing everywhere kept waking me

last night was little better - hopefully more power will be restored in my county soon
if all holds up - I'll post again tomorrow

It hasn't been above 28 in a couple of weeks. My feet are frozen. The parking lot where I live has not been plowed in a week. THere is a FOOT of snow on it. My car sits in a couple of ruts dug into the mountains of ice and frozen slush, and Rob and I have to keep switching them back and forth so I don't have to wake him up at 7 to move his so I can get out. We can't use the parking lot to turn around. It's a PAIN IN THE A**.

I'm sick of it. THe icicles hang everywhere; the sun will come out for an hour a day, unfreeze enough to drip, then go back behind the planet Saturn or whereever the heck it goes at this time of year, and everything drippy freezes again. I feel like I weigh 50 pounds more with all the winter gear I have to wear--10 pound gloves, 15 pound scarf, 50 pounds of boots on each foot--socks, leggings, sweaters...I feel like Ralphie's little brother Randy when I go out--I can't put my arms down.

If I sweat I itch. If I sit I freeze. If I drip and sweat and I'm outside, I freeze HARDER.

Shoveling only makes my hair stick to my head in a particularly ugly way, and makes the inside of my hat smell funny, or fall over my eyes--or both.

Wanna know the final irony? In February I have to go to a RESORT for a work conference. Where is this resort? SNOWSHOE MOUNTAIN, WEST VIRGINIA. Oh yay. Hoo. Ray. Yip. Peee. I get to escape to even more snow.

I'd cry, but my tears would stick to my face.

Sorry to hear all that CK-although it gave me a chuckle. Only a couple more months. Hope "Springs" eternal.

If it helps, I have the heat on tonight in Tampa Bay.

power was out again for nearly 12 hours again day before yesterday and my daughter STILL has none - though they finally got hold of a broken generator which her husband was able to get running (hoping it lasts!) It is a small one so it gives them some lights and runs the fridge so they aren't worrying so much about my granddaughter's insulin. Two tank toppers on our grill propane tanks are all they have for heat - and I gave them the carbon monoxide detector from the motor home I have (which is in the repair shop or I WOULD HAVE been moving into it myself!) so I don't worry about them getting poisoned!
I did get to the chiropractor and going back to the doc and the chiropractor today. (hurt my back last Wed while loading my mail car yes, know I was lifting improperly - but I couldn't get the other door open!) Feeling some better now - hope to get ok to get back on the job tomorrow which is the start of my regular work week.
I have some pics now though - there are a lot more spectacular sights I saw while I was delivering the first two days - but sadly didn't have time to dig out my camera to shoot!

I hope you are getting to a safer time now backgammonbob! Let us know how things are.

For me. It's finally at the point where they are coming in to the neighborhoods to remove snow. They are out there now with the huge dump truck and the whatever it's called scooping up the snow and putting it in the dumper. What a mess. Can't wait for the warmer weather and rain. That should be interesting!

    How's everyone else?
