    Default In pursuit of "gears"

I gave the anagrams a break and took a different tack this morning. My search for gears and perchprism's reminder that tracing paper could be useful led me to trace some lines connecting items on floor 7. I found that the twelve points of a "clock face" could be laid out, centered on the spring on the couch and passing through twelve items in the room:
Twelve o'clock: pink donut (or possibly the soda cup in the bedroom)
    One: pillow
    Two: squirting daisy
Three: 91.1 on the tv screen
Four: furthest red balloon in the dart balloon game?
Five: bumper car hook? or first clown in balloon race game
    six: rubber duck
seven: in elevator shaft, 7th floor
eight: chest on counter in dressing room
    nine: popcorn maker
ten: window with balloons? gumball machine?
eleven: green "A" shaped foot stool

After writing up this Floor 7 discovery this morning (on HitContests) I explored other rooms. I realized that there may be more than one "center" in each room that works with 12 radii. If there are two or three of these wheels in each room, each with its own center point, these could be the gears I've been seeking.

I also noticed that the purple hat on the hat rack may be a center point on floor 6, and there is another purple hat on a hat rack on floor 5. Similar items at the center or end of a radius could be the way that these interlocking gears fit together and move us between floors on the maze. The belt buckle on 12 and the belt buckle on 5 seem to be another match.

These radial gears make more sense than the "threesomes" as gears that I had been expecting to find. (Although those are still important, I expect.)

A couple of anagrams seemed to direct me toward radials (I had tried to figure out a connection to the tires on floors 11 and 7) and also to "collect pies". Since pies don't seem to be featured in the illustrations (although the foot of Rosa's bed looks a bit like a pi symbol), the "pi's" one would find in circles make more sense.

On a separate note, may I add: Wow, Doc. As always. You may find all twelve numbers while the rest of us lie in bed (for) hours.

I haven't read all of the posts on all of the sites (yet), but I haven't seen the Sigfried/Montecore connection mentioned.

Montecore is the name of the tiger that bit Roy Horn, of "Siegfried and Roy" fame. A possible Las Vegas connection? Or maybe just a connection to "Roy".

MayorSara, I like the way you think! The concept of clock-faced gears to form a sort of combination lock is so elegant as to likely be correct. And Doc's word puzzles will also likely lead the way, though they start to worry me when they require multiple iterations and assumptions...the fewer steps involved, the more likely they will be to be true.

This site has one of the best discussions going, but it was getting hard to find older posts and keep ideas organized. This will help! Adding the new link to my favorites now. Over and out!

I'm new to the forum, and just thought I'd offer a couple of thoughts with regards to the color theory, as well as the possible Roy Dodge involvement touched upon in previous posts. It may be nothing, but the color ORANGE falls halfway between the colors RED AND YELLOW on a color wheel, which also happens to spell R-O-Y. This color relationship seems to be alluded to not only in a variety of objects found in the rooms, but also the color spectrum/arrangement of elements in the periodic table. Just a thought.

We also might want a forum for Doc's "meta-puzzle" which does not appear to fit neatly into any of the categories.

Those type of general discussions, theories and such can simply go on here. The trick will be to get all the stuff that is already specific for certain floors to their rightful spot.

    Thanks Cthree.

And things on window ledges... but there is alot of randomness to color things unless you have specific items with colors..otherwise, the book is so chalk full of color you'd drive yourself crazy trying to piece things togther based simply on color.
