I like what MattQCD had to say. He's a bit drifty and windy...I couldn't make a vlog any better than that...I'm curious that hey nailed most of the basic clues, but resolved nothing at all. I think we can expect him to tackle clue by clue in the next two months. I guess it's a race then. If I don't recover it first, he or someone else will.

Maybe thats a clue about Who's the Boss?, K-Boss...the cast owned the Kroniker at one point according to Ep.308. Maybe its a clue to focus on the family portrait on 3rd floor or look more closely at the history of Cardinals... Or Logans Run.

I feel like one of those people who gets more and more paranoid or slowly poisoned by a tiny amount of arsenic every day...see, how paranoid is that? Its no mystery that my kids shredded my book and my wife happily misplaced it...more than once. Treasure hint books should come imbedded with gps tracker tags...

Anyhow, i believe the creators of thos hunt are as interested as ever in how we are progressing in our search for Dodge. I think Gus' silence or slow updates shouldnt be read into as some kind of failure on pur part to understand his cryptic marshmallowy expressions.

It might seem paranpid, bit I think we might be very suprised at how much maintaining and effort has gone into keeping this hunt strong. The decline of activity on our end is another story...

There IS a pattern to discern. Correllation shouldnt be confused with causality.

    Three, five, seven...one...four....308, 23, 20, 8....no, i thonk noght.

I dont think we are done with the squarring the circle clue.

I emailed a business location for where I thought Roy Dodge was hiding out and I got a response from the boss, his name was Ryan. He gave me some information and wished me luck. Either it's a coincidence or I'm on the right track. I actually can't decide. Am I just being silly?

Here's my email from Dec. 22nd

    Hi Ryan,

I missed your phone call yesterday and when I return called one of your associates said it was a miss-dial from you. Please allow me to inquire how you got my number, because I have an interest in visiting *insert city* in the next couple days and it seems absolutely too coincidental that even a miss dialed number would happen at this particular time.

Let me explain that I'm participating in a game-hobby-mystery-solving excerise and the object is to find someone formerly known as Roy Dodge. Would you know anything about this "character" or have you made any special arrangements with authors or publishers from McSweeney's in Valencia, CA?

Thank you for allowing me a moment of your time,
    Happy Holidays!
He responded by saying two things that resonate with the book and then wished me luck. (catherwood, this is what I was referring to when I said "thanks for calling, McSweeny's")

See, based on what I thought was the answer I had planned to drive a good portion of my day to get to a remote spot in Washington and I emailed Gustwintig@gmail.com about my plans and left my contact number, then I got a phone call a couple days later from a business less than a quarter mile away from where I was going? Way way too coincidental.

So this was an email from December? Did you go to *insert city*? I'm assuming that if you did go, you didn't find the 12 because the game goes on (-:

Can you tell us what Ryan said that "resonated" with the book without spilling state secrets? Did he answer your questions? Did he tell you how he got your number or did he say it was simply a mis-dial? Should I be paying attention to all the messages I have on my answering machine confirming doctor's appointments for people I don't know? Hmmm.

I question whether McSweeney's would make personal contact with any of the Jr. Deducers for the purposes of advancing an idea. They wouldn't want to be guilty of playing favorites or give any one player an edge over another. So my guess is that yes, it was just a coincidence. If you had found the 12, I might have a different opinion, but that "lead" appears to have lead nowhere. To be honest, I'd be upset-as would a lot of the other deducers-if it turned out they were helping you - or anyone for that matter- individually, with the hunt. Doesn't that seem like stacking the deck against the rest of us?

But you didn't find anything (except is this where you found the soggy Reader's Digest?) and it seems even less likely that they would go out of their way to intentionally lead you astray. I don't think they are paying a lot of attention to any of us as individuals.

Good points and i agree with the aggravation that goes along with preferencial treatment. Yes, this was the soggy mag trip..lol. My trip was constrained to three locations in that general area. I searched one based on a numerical method which gave an address, one based on food clues, and one based on the 13th floor stele with heiraglyphs. I had to cut my trip short and didnt search the third and final choice on my list. The information i got from the misdial communication wasnt given in the form of a direct clue. The number 7 was the mistake in my phone number and so I researched all 9 remaining choices that varied and of the operating numbers, none reached the person they were trying to reach. They made a mistake or I just pried open a cover up. The second thing that interests me is the last name of the contact matches the last name of a character mentioned by Gus directly. The odds are only hopeful in this respect, but it does make me wonder more and more about a certain clown. Everything about this odd set of events is wrapped in plausible deniability...McSquirmies will no doubt take the 5th...

They are guilty of some preferencial plays in the past. They fed Mayor Sara a fun anagram...Yo..Samarai and sent some Jr. deducers a Sketch of a custom drawn marshmallow. (Gus/Teplin style).

Some folks have recieved email responses from Gus...although I doubt they were helpful.

The only way they got my number was either from one of the three twelvers ive given my number to or William from Mississippi, or from my mailing of the hunt card or email to Gus.

Thanks for the clarification of how the events unfolded. I can see how you would be suspicious with that series of events. Did you keep that Reader's Digest and did it have an article about Bea Arthur in it?! One of these days one of the deducers will find that 12 and we can start evaluating our individual approaches to the hunt; what we were on to and what we missed. In the meantime, keep those wheels turning - or that clock ticking.
