Yeah, that Benson Bubbler is one of the original 20 installed back in the early part of the century. It's just north of Pioneer Courthouse Square...which is actually a circular brick amphitheater like gathering place. One of the coolest weathervanes is installed there. Could this be the "starting place" for tracking down Dodge?

Interestingly, this floor also has a four-headed shower.

I'm really not kidding about this. The Bubbler is the real deal. It's unique to Portland, Oregon.

Something that might interest you is a YouTube video of Fritz (the real Fritz, Scott Teplins son) on Scott Teplins channel. It was oddly uneventful and really forgettable...I saw it long ago and since then it's been removed from YouTube...he was drinking from a fountain of similar design, though it was not a Benson Bubbler. It was a concrete style, single port up spout design much like a geyser or the image of the pinball machine on 11th floor with KaBooM on it.

One two, buckle my shoe,..? Does that mean anything to anyone?

I like the line that goes, "eleven tweleve, dig and delve"

I think theres somerhing special about ones a d twos in the book.

I've worked too loosely with pattern recognition up to this point. I've spent much time looking into minor details like learning more about the art pieces in the book or figuring out reasons for each character's first and last name. Perhaps all those details are just avenues to distract us from deducing the real nitty gritty Dodge related stuff. I applaud many peoples efforts and thank them for anything they've shared. I understand why folks aren't sharing very much in the forums, and I expect my plethora of random ideas hasn't helped anyone get down to the really important business of deducing from the book only. I'm having the hardest time getting away from basing ideas on the multiple sources of internet media as information. These alternate sources are deliberate (trust me, they are) but I don't know if that's just to entertain us or is it designed to nudge us in the right direction. Each time I pull an idea from a non-book source, I return to the book to ask "how could the book lead us to that kind of conclusion?". I've found only a couple gems in that process. I've shared one of them. The four headed dragon fountain.

This puzzle is like chasing after monkeys through a maze littered with banana peels isn't it? We have soo many opportunities to slip. How can we avoid slipping? How can our theories hold water?

We can think about everything Dodge has said and done. Everything looks normal and reasonable at a glance, but if we think just a bit deeper about it, we begin to see patterns. Taking things from the level of observation to deduction and then to information that leads to location is the challenge.

What are our most worthy deductions? Let's get our heads wrapped around that first and then look at the next step very carefully.

The dragon headed fountain could be a Benson Bubbler, an iconic four headed drinking fountain from/in Portland. If so, there is only ONE to be found in Washington and that's at the Maryhill Museum. (I think it reopens after winter closure in about three weeks, btw). This idea comes from double connected clues (remember, it takes more than one instance to make something into a pattern...otherwise you're just guessing). Marcell Duchamps (R.Mutt's) urinal is found on 13th floor (the beginning). On 3rd floor we have a resident using another alternate name of Marcell Duchamps, Rosa Selavy. There's a the PORT-a-potty on 7th floor and there's the Roy Dodge being left handed (The left hand on a ship is called PORT). The first Benson Bubbler was installed on 5th and Washington in Portland. Maybe my logic or style of presentation isn't the best, perhaps someone would be willing to help clean up my ideas. It's been a tough challenge, and I'm a bit exhausted these days.

Wahhh....I have to cancel my St. Patricks Day vacation plans. The universe has provided at least five different excuses for my failure to set forth once more in my chariot (thats my Honda).

I'm tempted to share my discovery in a PM to anyone with the serious desire to take the trip into State of Washington. I'm not absolutely sure of anything of course. Someone might end up searching for hours...
