Wait, what if the 12 is in multiple pieces? What we see looks complete with "12" engraved across it, but what if Anna crafted a non-number Sphinx facing the opposite direction, like a twin or bookend? When Jerome robbed it originally, he might've missed the other half of a set.

I'm doubtlessly less experienced with these sorts of things than a lot of people, but I'm not sure I understand how the hunt was solved from the blog in lieu of the book - the only "clue" that wasn't in the book was the magnifying glass find itself - and the authors would have to be luddites not to expect anyone interested in the hunt to also follow the "official" web page. Not much different than checking to see if a number was already found at a site before setting out to search, imo.

Ok, then show how it was found from the book? And, the book said it would be buried.

Which came first, the chicken or the egg? In this case, the Book or the Website.

Humor me and assume that "Phil" showed up at one of their book events, bought a book and went home, going about his merry business of solving a tower crime. Where, why or how would Phil know or even want to go to a website somewhere based on what he reads in this book? The book doesnt reference a website (unless you count the mcsweeneys price and ISBN stamp). All it says, and I quote from the last line in the last paragraph: "The twelve numbers of the Emerald Khroniker slumber underground, awaiting your sharp eyes and sharper shovels." So we have agroup of folks that DO go to the web, find TWELEVE and ultimately the website..or just google and find the site. In any case, you have
The Clock Without A Face - news - WE GOT GOT? - seeing this and then,
The Clock Without A Face - news - ... and then all the other postings and comments, sharply deduced to find the package.

Cosmicjay said on the comments somewhere a year or more back in reference to the 6 being found in Arkansas,
So this number was hidden quite differently from all the others. It was at a turnout, not a rest area. It was in the rough. It had no metal marker. It was apparently only near, not at the mile that could be derived from the clues. Thank goodness that at least the vines do not appear to be poison ivy, which I found on many trees in Arkansas. I anticipate that the 12 could "break the rules" even more. It may be extremely difficult.

Well said, good insight and thank goodness you were on the blog folks, you could still be searching.

    Cheers,
    Domino

So, do you think the authors originally intended to bury the 12, and later deviated from that plan? Or did they always intend to have it end as it did? The hunt seemed to drag on and on, then all of a sudden, come to an abrupt end....and none of it based on the book. Could it be that the authors intended for someone from the blog to find it? Were they getting tired of waiting for someone to solve the book? Can the book be solved for the 12? And does this solution match the blog solution?

I have no issue with the hunt being "live" and based on a blog. But it seems odd that the entire focus of the hunt switched from a book to a live blog. Was this intended or not? The blog did not seem to give hints that would steer you back to the book.

And the book has left so many unanswered questions. I find it hard to believe that so many strange things in the book were there to serve absolutely no purpose at all.

Have the authors come forward and answered any questions people have had since the 12 has been found?

First came Gus' Tweets on March 1st. Twenty days later came the call from Dodge about the case at Ternky Towers and following that the blog, the YouTube video on the 22nd, and then the case files in the form of the book in April. The book was issued as a supplement and promises only the location to the dig locations. We are updated by Twitter about the GOT GOT blog post about the upset with Munari's location being looted and Dodge's Magnifyer being found by Popper.

My guess is Popper was part of the whole plan.

This doesnt make sense to me. I bought, a book. A hunt took place. The book that I own does not ellude to me needing to do anything "online" for this hunt. If it did, I would most likely have avoided it as a personally am hunts that I can get my hands on and stay away from online stuff (there are rare occassions).

I see your point, Domino. The blog is what seems to come first in terms of introducing the book, though it was 3rd party advertised by booksellers as a book-only-hunt. Gus is LIVE in his tweets prior to the books publishing so I see that as an indication that the ARG option was intended as an additional component to the hunt. It seems like a weak point on the authors part to lack some in-book reference to the outside elements in order to prevent a Book-only-perspective.

There's a major clue trail associated or focus around the three-letter word WHO. I've based my best efforts around pursuing an OWL theory. If there is something more to this hunt, then it's going to be along those lines. My interest in this outside chance investigation is waning in light of things related to Indiana. I've noticed the basketball connection to Whizz-Bang AND the original 49ner name of Washington, CA as "Indiana Camp". It now occurs to me that Indiana, 19th state of the Union, is also the "Hoosier" state. What better way to hint about the additional significance for the 7th floor than to use an Owl or Who reference. Who's here = Hoosier...how ironic since my user name is of the same kind of construction, EREXERE = Eric's Here.

A good interpretation of what's bigger than an red erring if considering the Periodic Table's error of Mi in the red circle which covers the Ar (18th element), the 19th element is one bigger, and so that might be a distant clue to the 19th state.

Observation. The ladies on 5th floor talk about the book they're working on where they have figured out the state and mile but they're having trouble with the highway. Once we see through the paradox, there's a nice piece of fridge logic in recognizing the highway Anonymous uses to locate the No.9 is I-35 because the tally marks add up to 35 and the word "tally" itself contains the word TALL. This has to be my 87th theory by now, which is to say all things TALL and POINTY relate to Dodge.
