Default Mistakes in the Companion Book

I'm sure by now most of you have noticed all of the mistakes in the Companion Book. After a point, you have to start realizing that they are intentional, and more than simply the result of sloppy work. Mostly single letters are missing, the kind of thing a spell check would easily miss, but there are instances where the language seems completely inappropriate.

    PAGE 8
    Paragraph 3, Line 5 (Line 10 overall)
"...you may have not seen before, a way to see thing that were all the time right in front of you."

    PAGE 14
    Paragraph 2, Line 4 (Line 11 overall)
"...surface they came across of layer of flagstones..."

I'm sure none of this is exactly news...

I agree in concept, but not necessarily those exact quotes. The sentence structure on your page 8 cite is uncommon, but if you were to make "thing" plural, I don't know that it would be grammatically incorrect. I agree it's odd wording, though, and doesn't sound conversational.

As far as "came across a layer of stones" on page 14, that's totally the type of thing I would say or write myself. I am wondering if it might be a regional thing, since I grew up only about 45 minutes from Stadther's home. (My girlfriend who is from the midwest says I come out with some odd phrases like this sometimes.)

Can someone please tell me if they have noticed a problem with Question 26, on page 59?

"Count every F you see an in the following sentence:"

I saw no "an" and only one F ~ sure I saw the tweleve "f"s, but that wasn't what I was asked to find. Quite honestly this concerns me about ATT. A typo or questionable directions could cost any one of us finding the solution to any or (hopefully not) all of the puzzles.
I already posted this on another page the day I got the book.

Page 8, 14 and others are definitely wrong, as well. I only hope you are right, in believing these mistakes are intentional and not just sloppy editing.

    Default Vigenere Ciphers error p49

The alphabet across the top has an error (either intentional or not) that results in different answers. I use the"polyprog" program with --
    abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz and get.
kzkhl*siyfve*sfyk*iywm = right before your eyes
If I use the cyper in the book (X & Y are reversed) I get--
kzkhl*sixfve*rfxk*iywm = right before your eyes -- using abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwyxz
Also he has grouped his alpha in a- 1 3 4 3 4 3 4 4 grouping which gives you an entirely different cypher.
    Any explanations for this?

MS said somewhere (don't remember where) that they were in such a rush to get the CB out that they overlooked several mistakes. I think someone emailed him about this and he said they were correcting these things for future printing. Don't forget, he's repeated said that the companion book will only help you recognize some of the clues in ATT, and that you don't need to have this book to solve ATT.

    Hope that helps

For what it's worth, I consider the CB a waste of money. Other than reminding me of a couple of old ciphers, it did not impress me. The spelling and grammatical mistakes are rampant, and the various images are clearly low-res scans from webpages. I've identified several of them. You can really tell that this was a self-published book.

And I agree with the many here who have reminded us that the CB is only meant to "train" us to look for certain puzzles. As a separate volume, costing additional money, it should NOT be necessary to find the Tokens (quite unethical if it IS).

PS- the story about the Oak Island Money Pit is highly inaccurate and out of date
"Knowledge is power" + "With great power comes great responsibility" = Those who know must help those who don't.

    Default Second Edition Released

I just received my treasure kit and it now includes the second edition of the companion book. Most of the typos have been fixed now.
