what about rusful? That is sulfur, and I didn't see any directions for that.

    I guess I'm torn.

On the one hand, I cannot deny the significance of this occurance, but on the other hand, I lack any clear and concrete way of LINKING the use of the title's letters to the use of the ordering of 15.

I can link the ordering of 15 to the Kootenstoopit.
I can link the ordering of 15 to the dedication, "to helen".

    ponder ponder.

Just some more thoughts along this line:

That Kootenstoopit first appears associated with the pink numbers, (possibly pointing east) and with a blue/grey hat.

One puzzle piece appears on pg 29 (missing Kootenstoopit) that ends up matching pg 59.

One puzzle piece appears on pg 35 (missing Kootenstoopit) AND the pink A.

Kootenstoopit appears in image pg 41, with checker sock hat. no puzzle piece, but an extra button.

Kootenstoopit appears on pg 51, pointing east again, this time with a puzzle piece, and with a blue/grey hat.

Kootenstoopit with puzzle pg 59. She is pointing west and wearing blue/grey hat.

Kootenstoopit pg 61. Missing hat, pointing west, puzzle piece.

pg 75, puzzle piece, missing Kootenstoopit.
pg 82, puzzle piece, missing Kootenstoopit.
pg 87, puzzle piece, missing Kootenstoopit.
pg 95, puzzle piece, missing Kootenstoopit.

Don't know if this is a help to solve anything, but I find it interesting information.

    Default something else

The sequence of numbers contains all numbers between 1 and 15. It's arguably the first puzzle in the book (linearly speaking). The Mushroom code on page 100 is the last puzzle in the book and could be seen as 15 pairs of coordinates for a 5x5 grid. Could these puzzles be related? Bookends for the hunt that relate to the central idea of the 5x5 grid? I've been trying to reorder the mushroom code according to the sequence at the beginning of the book, but until I know the pattern that fills the grid, be it numbers or letters, I fear I've hit a dead end.

I wonder of the 25 letters surrounding the image on page 31 are color coded to the grids on pages 16 and 86. Then perhaps the re-sequenced mushroom code will tell us something. But that's easier said than done...

These are my thoughts and current routes of exploration. Comments?

i think this the first 15 letters are just a way for MS to tell you things need to be done using anagrams. nothing fancy. just a simple message.
