    Trainor,
I don't think it is a four-square either. Or a playfair for that matter.

    Stvwz,
That leaves us back to the brand symbols around the "word search" that you mentioned. Hmmmm.... Maybe we should all concentrate our efforts on those.
    Beth,

You actually can get a number of legible words out of the word search - leading us to a musical reference - to your point..

I would love to figure out what the brands and numbers around the grid mean. There are 36 different brands, a number of them reflections of other brands, and some unique. 36 could be alpha numeric...

Yes, and those brands are on DIFFERENT PAGES. I think we can ignore the ones that are unique for now. Concentrate on those that can be paired up......

The "WORD SEARCH" is most assuredly a word search....made to have words hidden in it that you trace a big circle around when you find them. Now, how you come about finding them, that is a different subject altogether.

Your friendly neighborhood hint of the day (since everyone that has the book has an opportunity to be here on tweleve - or even if you have visited the website). I dont feel I am giving any unfair advantages by posting here. . .and wouldnt care anyway as you all are my treasure pals anyway.

I wonder why no one's mentioned the first symbols below the pencil on page 1? (Maybe I've missed reading it somewhere?) It seems like a starting point to me--just got the book the other day.

The symbols in the second group are twice as big as the ones in the first group, and the symbols in the third group are twice as big as the ones in the second group. Next to the "#2 (4)", that means something. I think I've figured out one or two words, but I'm stuck on one word.

Another thing. I noticed that the pencil's width (crosswise) is the exact width of a single lined space on my notepad (and he mentions a notepad). In the paragraph above it he seems to say it's important to get the "big" ideas written down on a notepad, so I guess it will be important for us to write something on this one little lined space he's provided inside the pencil? Just some random thoughts of mine, silly as they probably are!

Okay, now I see the previous posts relating to this. Thanks! But there are still a few things that mystify me about this. One being, what is the meaning of the "#2 (4)" on the pencil? And why did Domino want to make the characters three different sizes? Yes, I know it could have been to separate the three words, but he already did that by separating them with spaces. And what is the first character (the little round thing holding the arrow--the first one in each set)? I don't see that in the font table. Maybe I'm just overlooking it something very obvious.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not asking anyone for direct answers or anything, I'm just mulling over these strange details. That's what I usually do--I find strange details and blow them all out of proportion, and overlook the simple and obvious!

    Hi Spiggan and welcome!

Been pretty busy with Holidays and work and several simultaneous hunts, so I havent looked at Cowboy for a couple of weeks. I have also wondered about the meaning of the #2 and (4) on the pencil. I think they relate to a shift somehow, but really not sure what to make of it. I have a wordsearch that reveals many words, but I am wondering if I shift the letters, perhaps more words will appear.

The funny characters at the bottom are a specific font that reveals them as numbers, but again - havent discovered the significance yet.

Keep up the observations - steve

Phone number? What phone number? (I guess I still have a lot of catching up to do!)

My newbie thoughts are that the characters under the pencil would tell something about how to go about doing do the word-search. See how the first characters of each set--the little round things--hold arrows that point to the word-search?

I've looked in that font table, and I still haven't found this little round thing holding the arrow in there. Did Domino make up this one himself?

    Hi Spiggan!

From what I could tell from these little font drawings, they are numbers. The little guys with arrows, I think, are just hyphens, minus signs or space indicators. So you get:

    -2375-686-7471

...and that's as far as I got with that.... ho hum.

If you substitute alphabetically with numbers further up on the page you get:

    CCDHHHFDCD = 3348886434

...and the hits just keep on coming...and I remain baffled here. Maybe the #2 indicates that this is the second of Domino's layers...

    Happy ciphering!... and Season's Greetings.
    Beth
