Hmmm. (Now trying to figure out how erexere got that!)

FoxyKeys, I'm still stuck on the little round character holding the arrow--I still think it might mean something very specific that could be important. I think it must be part of that Red Rock font, but I don't find it in any font table.

Page one and I'm already floored. Thanks, Domino!

    Hey Spiggan!

I don't know where ereeere got that either... but let's try this (and forget the arrow guys for now)... I'm really not sure they are hyphens, spaces or minuses.

If you get CCDHHHFDCD=3348886434 and plug it into a mobile/landline searcher, you get no matches... But, if you reverse the phone number and try:4346888433, you get Danville, Virginia.

This location was famous for the 1903 Southbound Mail Express train tragedy. This is where the ballad The Wreck of the Old 97 came from. Johnny Cash, Roy Acuff, Pete Seeger and a number of other artists sang this ballad. The engineer was Joseph A. (Steve) Broady. Danville was the capitol of the Confederate States of America.

Danville is also noted for another ballad, sung by Joan Baez, The Night They Drove Old Dixey Down. ...well, it's interesting, anyway.

    Hope this gets us somewhere.

    Happy Troving!
    Beth

I didn't have a phone to reference at the time so I made a wee mistake

    it should be 2234443323.

The phone pad reads ABC for 2, DEF for 3, GHI for 4. This is just an alternative approach to straight alpha numeric...not saying this is the right approach or not....donno anything yet.

Oh I see what you mean now, erexere. Thanks for your input, everyone! Something else on this page caught my eye awhile ago...He italicized that phrase "cattle rustle'n abilities". What exactly did cattle rustlers do to steal cattle, anyway? I looked up "cattle rustling" just now. Actually, they did it by altering brands. The way I understand it, they would make a "running iron" with a bar or a circle or something like that on it, and they would sneak up at night to a branded cow and change a letter "V" to an "A", or change a letter "C" to an "O". Something like that. That "V" brand on the right of the word-search looks like it has a bar in front of it (it's shadowed). Brand altering.

Cowboy asks, "What creative things was he capable of doing?"--referring to those letters CCDHHHFDCD. So, if Cowboy is capable of altering the characters on brands, how does that mean he altered these letters' characters?

That is a very interesting observation. I wonder if that comes into play for decoding the brand page? Nice job.

Hey, I think I finally found out what the little round guy holding the arrow is (under the pencil on page 1). Lo and behold....it is a dash!

If you google "MiniPics Red Rock Regular by NicePrice Font Collection", you'll find it. (I would have posted the link, but I had trouble doing it for some reason). This page has the complete font, with the dash. I clicked on the "Waterfall" bar, and found a page that shows all the different sizes of the font in a "waterfall".

What is interesting is that the smallest size character group under the pencil (-2375) is font size 24. You can see this by typing in the characters (-2375) into the box there, and it will show the waterfall for those characters. It exactly matches 24 on the waterfall. Now I'm wondering if the "#2 (4)" on the pencil is referring to the font size.

The large characters on the right are size 36. Except for the number 1 on the far right--it is a good deal bigger--it appears to be size 48. So I think this means we are supposed to treat this number 1 as separate from the others.

The middle size group has to be size 30.

I'm thinking that we are supposed to read these character groups from the largest, the big number 1 under the point of the pencil, to the next largest (-747) to the next largest (-686) to the smallest (-2375).

This would have to be a phone number, wouldn't it?

    1-747-686-2375...??

    Spiggan-
Just FYI since you're working on this clue, that same number is at the bottom of page 30 also. Unfortunately, I don't know what the connection is yet, but perhaps something may stand out to you. Good luck,
    Brian

Well, that is odd! I forgot about that page. I guess if these numbers are in both places, they must mean something. Thank you for pointing this out.
