Does anyone know what 2 across is? Now THAT might be helpful.
    Hi Genetic Blend!

My answer may depend on your answer for 1 down, second letter. If the second letter is Q, maybe I have it right. Then again, I have come up with weird words lately for this puzzle.

    Hi Goatlady!

I think it's a good connection. Definitely, Willie had red hair. There were other red heads I'm curious about, ie Custer, but that would put us in Montana. Other red heads abound which affects location. So far, if I want some reward, it will involve much traveling.

You are correct on the misspell...but why? That word is correct BTW. No comment on the rest of your findings. Great job. This section is fun to see being formulated. And, you guys come up with some stuff that never even occurred to me...fun.

    Default Custer

Custer would put you in South Dakota, and there sure are a lot of PINE trees there! The Black Hills, Mount RUSHmore, Faces. There is also Deadwood where Wild Bill Hickcock was shot playing Poker. I have been there many times, very "Old West" feel preserved.

Thanks Goatlady! I'll try to avoid asking someone else in the middle of my post. Of course, South Dakota ... ...

Okay... here's an interesting thing on both locations, Montana and South Dakota regarding Custer. At Custer State Park in South Dakota, off the banks of French creek, Custer led an expedition where gold was discovered in 1874. This park is located in the Black Hills with 71,000 acres. It is the location of Crazy Horse Monument and includes Black Hills Caves which includes Sitting Bull Cavern... boy I'd like to visit this place.

There is a place called Custer Montana honoring Custer's defeat at the Battle at Big Horn which took place nearby in 1876. Custer was also involved in the Rosebud Battle site... makes sense for the word flowers and bouquet in the crossword puzzle.

Thanks again. Keep up the good troving!
