I can see how in this section you have to "stray in a different direction". I get dizzy being upside down!

Default Hicks X, Joyce, Salazar, Schlesinger and Smith

Does anyone have any idea who these placards belong to? I will venture some guesses.

I think Smith is Peg Leg Smith, a mountain man who served as a guide to early expeditions into the southwest. He helped explore parts of present-day New Mexico. It is said that he has a lost gold mine somewhere in California.

I think Salazar is Juan de Onate, a Spanish explorer and colonial governor of the New Spain Province of New Mexico and various settlements in present-day southwest US. He was known as the "last conquistador". Some believe that he was not just exploring and making settlements, but he was searching for the "Golden City of Quivira".

I think Schlesinger is Arthur Schlesinger, but I have no idea how he would fit in with the treasure-hunting theme.

Joyce could be James Joyce, but again, I can't seem to find a link to any treasure hunts. Perhaps he wrote something about searching for treasure...??

And I have no idea who Hicks X is.

    Anyone have any ideas?

    Hi Genetic Blend!

Although I like your pick of Pegleg Smith very much, I came up with another possibility... Smith= Smith & Wesson. The Model 3 became known as the Russian Model which was the favorite weapon used by Wyatt Earp, the US Lawman. The Army at the time called it the Schofield and used it throughout the "Indian" wars out West.

    Hope it helps. Happy Troving.

I feel as though these names are just Domino's sense of humor and irony coming out. Nothing more.

Nice ones Lafitte! I have to agree...your choices do fit in with Domino's sense of humor. Now if we could only figure out Hicks X.
