Getting Minnesota from the typo of adornment is an interesting speculation, but that bit of text only appears on the manga scroll. I don't think a clue like that could appear on one scroll edition but not the other. I believe it was said that both editions contain the same clues. If I'm wrong on that maybe Jason will clarify the significance of the differences between the scrolls.
I'm not sure what dots you're talking about, or how they connect to Illinois.
I have at various times considered New Mexico, Wyoming, Utah, Washington, and Texas, but I have nothing concrete to base a state on yet, so basically, I'm clueless. :?
Just for fun my guess is in the very far southwest united states. I stumbled on to something i think may be significant but it's only the begining.

I am guessing UTAH
If that is true, I will be happy, because yes, I am in Utah for now (as is, I believe, moscow32).
As luck would have it, I'm moving from Utah in a few weeks :(. Making my way out to Michigan. But fortunately, I have a network here in UT if I need to send someone looking. :)
"As luck would have it"--so true! Actually, I'm finally starting to warm up to Utah a little, finding some fun places to go, especially if you like outdoors/camping (I used to really hate it; it's still not my favorite place but I like it a lot more now, though I won't be here THAT much longer).
Anyway, have fun in MI!
Sorry for being so off topic. :)
I shall clarify, since I'm here. Any difference between the scrolls was my doing during the design process. Aesthetic reasons. Each version of the Idol of Xi has exactly the same clues in it. ...though, these may be in different places, as obviously, the layout of the scrolls are different. But the clues are the same. ; )Quote:

The SQ guys have said more than once that all the clues are in BOTH scrolls, so if you find something in one scroll that you cannot find in the other don't pay much attention to it.
Red herrings are not uncommon in the scrolls (remember all the Ogham in the GA).
