I examined the pointing fairies closely again today, and came up with the idea that maybe we should draw a straight line from the fairy's pointing finger (or toe in the pickensrooters' case) to a letter either in the story text or the obscure lettering that creates the poem text. For example my findings are the following:

Pg. 16 The letter 'g' in the word great or the letter 'S' formed in the border trees

Pg. 20 The letter 'S' in the chapter heading

    Pg. 22 Spider web 'A'

Pg. 25 toe makes line to letter 'd' in the ribbon

Pg. 41 could be the 'E' or 'V' in border

Pg. 45 this one is tough because the only thing pickensrooter points to is the obvious letter 'S', but we cannot see his toes????

    Pg. 51 puzzle piece 'T'

Pg. 53 could be the 'w' in "workshop"

Pg. 55 points to the sideways letter 'E' that appears in the box, there is an 'h' directly opposite where pickensrooter points, though, and pickensrooters are supposed to be tricky. And again we cannot see his toes.

    Pg. 59 'M' in puzzle

Pg. 61 puzzle piece letter 'A'

Pg. 63 toe points directly at 'E' in "THE" box or makes a line to 'R'

Pg. 66 makes a line to letter 'A' in "HAND"

Pg. 69 another toughie, it appears 'T' is the only option here

Pg. 78 the letter 'a' from the border text "goal"

Pg. 88 'I' appears the only option here too.

So the string of letters then could be:

    SSAD(E/V)STWEMA(E/R)ATAI

Which all makes no sense at all, however, after spending the time, I figured I should post anyway, just in case I am anywhere near the right track.

I think I saw someone mention this before, but this is my method...I took the fingers or toes if pointing, marked a straight line with each, then took the words inside those lines..Where you see ++++ is a new page...

Just so you can compare notes,,,,side by side,,,so to speak

This was the post I did regarding the faeries pointing to Letters in the Borders:

Post subject: FAIRIES POINTING TO LETTERS IN THE BORDERS

    I have made a list ( oh my goodness have I made a list ! LOL ! I can't tell you how many LISTS I've made !! Laughing ) well...a partial list anyway ....

of Letters in the Borders that I think the fairies are pointing to...now that you have brought it up pws....

Most of the time everyone talks about things or letters that the fairies are pointing to that they are focused on real close-like - you know,,,,all up close and personal. "Look thru to the other side of the page,,,etc. etc." Heck even I've done that.

Then I began to see it a bit differently ... after reading some of the solution to Masquerade ... where lines were being drawn OUT to something in the borders. MS talks about there being no intentional red herrings, but he freely admits there is "misdirection". A magician's favorite trick is to get you to look at what he is pointing to....when in fact....that is pure misdirection....and what you SHOULD be looking at is what he is NOT focusing on.

I drew an imaginary line from the fairies pointing finger to the LETTER IN THE BORDER that the fairy seems to be pointing to. And I made a list of those letters. Never posted it before, but this seemed like the perfect opportunity.

So...onward. Enough background regarding my theory.

Fairies pointing to letters in the borders and the creature found hidden on that page: (a partial list)

    pg 16 ---- "S" -- (from "SKY") ---- Ladybug

    pg 20 ---- "T" -- (from "FOREST") ---- Spider

    pg 22 ---- "U" -- (from "AROUND") ---- Caterpillar

    pg 25 ---- "N" -- (from "HANDS") ---- Dragonfly

    pg 41 ---- "E" -- (from "EVEN") ---- Hummingbird

    pg 45 ---- "C" -- (guess - Polybius sq? A B C) -- Ant

pg 44 ---- "E" "R" "E" "K" (fairy pointing upwards into orange border -first letter on bottom of the column of letters going upwards is the "K") -- Dragonfly

    pg 51 ---- "T" -- (Koot. fairy puzzle pc)

    pg 52 ---- "T" -- (from "NOT") -- Butterfly

    pg 55 ---- "N" -- (guess - in wood above T) -- Hummingbird

    pg 59 ---- "F" -- (from "OF" -- Grasshopper

pg 61 ---- "A" -- (from Koot. fairy puzzle pc)

    pg 63 ---- "E" &/or "R" -- (from "THE" and "REVEAL") -- Beetle

    pg 66 ---- "A" -- (from "HAND") -- Snail

pg 69 ---- think its a coordinate of 1,3 from the inner border wrappings -- could be an "C" from POW Tap Code; an "L" from Polybius with I/J combined or "K" with "Q" missing from the square -- Beetle

pg 78 ---- not sure what letter in outer border is being pointed to - need help -- Ant

    pg 88 ---- "O" -- (guessing the "O" the vine is making)

After I did the exercise I was at a dead end. Just had it in my notes, waiting to see if something popped up that made it make more sense. So far, I'm still delerious.

Default Pointing Fairies and Number Scramble

I wonder if the pointing fairies have anything to do with the one pointing at the numbers at the beginning...

...If we can figure out exactly what the meaning of their pointing is, placing them in the order could actually be another clue.

Also, if you look on most of the boxed letters, there are vines around them. The vines almost look like they are forming letters.
I'm telling you... This thing is driving me to see things!!!
