From the ATT site...from MS's explanation of the way to decode the clue. He lists all the ways you can use to solve the clue. What he says about anagrams should be carefully considered. [Emphasis mine]
You can solve the second clue in several ways.
1.
Anagram all of the letters, but this leads to too many results to easily interpret.
Then he goes on to explain two other more likely ways to deduce a solution to the clue. One involves getting a Rubik's cube and removing all the sticky's and putting the letters on the cube (not all THAT likely) and the last....well just scope it all out on paper...and Voila!

How cool is that ?
Lastly, MS has a tendency NOT to copy edit his emails, and perhaps his website itself. So be AWARE...(not to cast dispersions,,,,he is a BUSY MAN)...but take note when he makes a spelling error,,,it's often JUST A TYPO,,,and ignore it,,,let it go,,,it's probably NOT a clue, folks.
To wit: [Emphasis mine]
However, the clue itself confirms that it was actually
posed on March 31, which was also spotted by alert web site followers. So, the second clue is not a red herring.
I only wish MS had explained the WIERDNESS attributed to the bloody "A's". Did any of you ZOOM WAY IN on those ? Shoot they look more like something alien (*or a birthday cake with a candle*) or a chess piece (did I hear ROOK anyone?
) than any "A" I ever saw !
