Default RE: Maps of the Area

As a blatant 'newbie' to this dance, I do wonder if it would be a good idea to obtain a topographical map of the area(s) under discussion?

I realize that there is a statement ..."you do not have to be there to win"... but sometimes, understanding the lay of the land adds meaning to what you read/deduce.

I'm still waiting for my copy of the book to arrive - guess it got held up in the holiday mailings ...

    Welcome to Tweleve, OceanArcher!

You can glean some topo info from the National Park Service map http://www.nps.gov/acad/planyourvisi...CADmap2005.pdf

If you are interested in more detailed topo info, you can probably get it at topozone.

there seems to be some confusion about the winning
of the treasure ive seen a few statements similar
    to this one

I realize that there is a statement ...
"you do not have to be there to win"...

below is the link and where i got the three
statements below link, the same rules read the
same on pg 57 of book, as at the link.so i would
say it is a physical hunt, and we know how
    much fun that can be

    http://www.followthefox.com/official_rules.php

Contained within the book, "+++++++++++++++FANDANGO," are clues
both visual and verbal. The key to the master
riddle can be solved by using your intellect and
skill (chance will not lead you to the treasure).

The reader does not need to be present on Mount
Desert Island to solve the Riddle.

The reader does need to be present on Mount Desert
Island to recover the Golden Key.

    How is that?

im guessing the clues in book tell where, then you go find key
turn key in for 10 grand. guessing again you contac the
stockwell publishing co., to turn the key for 10 grand

Thank you for the correction in my misguided thinking.

Of course, if you want to physically obtain the key, you have to actually travel to the site to collect it. Assuming all pieces of the puzzle can be obtained from the book, then the solution can be accomplished without visiting the island.

I have to blame residue from a New Years Party for my errors

Well, I finally figured out one puzzle is this darn hunt.

This hunt is purely armchair. No physical key to recover. The solution to the hunt will contain the info needed to claim the prize.

This is upsetting. I was SO looking forward to going to Acadia for a physical hunt on this one. I had been there twice before on vacation, but I stopped going because it was my dog's favorite place to be, and she died. I was hoping the treasure hunt would get me over my emotional barrier to going there again.
