Although there could be some scattered hints, I don't see a pattern or a clear direction using this technique.

"The last in line" and "Two together" could be supporting hints, if Astree is correct - taking the first and last letter of each phrase and combining two or more phrases to find a coded hint.

I tried anagramming all eight letters for each page,

Astree, if you can come up with a way of extending your observations in a way that creates a pattern or leads to further clues (preferably in English), I would love to follow up.
    Hi Puma Lion,

I'm not telling you everything I know, but I do try to provide enough to get people looking at the puzzle(s) in ways that can be useful.

Another thing I can tell you about this picture, is that the bottom corner letters also make EAST ... I believe this is different than the other combinations we discussed recently. We already discussed that the last letters can make SEER, and 'sear' means to burn, which is what happened to many of these estates. etc.

The Latin may be coincidence, but I don't think so in all cases. It may be some added fun the authors had - they certainly put loads of hidden, but non-necessary information, into the puzzle.

    Good Luck,

    .
    the latin TERO (protruding)...

The emanation from the object protruding from the red curtain, captures the border "I"

    "TRAD I TION" carries

    ALL IN A NAME

"in the name of trad i tion"

    next puzzle page

    "AN EYE REFLECTS" ....

( so, this is suggestive that the puzzles are connected ... and they are )

I noticed a few weeks ago, while looking at the Wingwood location, that the pillars seem to be gone. There is a lot of construction around that area and it appears they have been torn down. The flagpole, or mast is still there.

Yes, on the street view of Google Earth, it shows where they have taken all the front out where the entry columns were and some of the parking lot. I cant tell if they are widening the street or putting in more parking or what. The Mast still remains and the terminal is there. Only the columns are gone, but I think they are pointed to in the book and IF they were important, they are no longer. The air view till shows them.

rarbowen - you are correct. The whole area has been under construction for the past few years. That Google Earth street view was taken in September of 2018. Most of that construction is now complete. They widened the street and added sidewalks so that passengers from the cruise ships can walk to downtown Bar Harbor.

They also removed some old stone walls that were along the road in front of The College of the Altantic, moved utility poles so they could widen the streets, and cut back the undergrowth that had obscured some of the ruins from the 1947 fire along Eden Street/ Rte 3 (Rock Brook and Rocklyn cottages). This section of Rte 3 is a historical district now and I think they are cleaning it up so the ruins can be viewed. It is not part of Acadia, but is owned by Bar Harbor. I bushwacked around the ruins a number of years ago, but now they have No Trespassing signs all along that section of the street.

A lot has changed on MDI since 2007. Many of the things I see people connect to the book were not there in 2007, or have been changed or moved since then. It does make it difficult to sort out what is relevant to the book. I'm not sure how you were going to use the pillars, but I did look at them myself when they were still there. There were no cracks where one could hide a key, and the shadows fell mostly on asphalt. Pel said the key is not buried, but there was nothing around the pillars except some grass, the street, and a parking lot. Pacing 40 south didn't do much either.

I am surprised, though, that they would take the pillars down when they stood along a historical district. Maybe they didn't consider them important because Wingwood didn't burn! It was unceremoniously torn down - in 1957, I think. I suppose you could use the overhead view to determine what you need, or at least to figure out exactly where they were.

Thands theda. I would have to go back to find exactly what it was that interested me, but I do recall it had something to do with "two together" . I have pictures, and I believe it was a confirmer more than anything. I really need to go through all these notebooks, envelops and boxes just to refresh my mind and ditch the leftovers!
