    Hey Zurek,

What I find interesting is the location of the star on his watch. If he was looking at his watch, why would the star be a the 6:00 position? Doesn't make sense. Should be the 12:00 position, don't you think??

    Hi CW,

The 5:50 time you mentioned, I could see. When I checked the book out using my magnifier, it just made sense. Notice the sunset cloud above the back end of the car, there's a key. Sunset is a key?

Seems so weird the driver is dressed in summer clothing and sunset in the summertime could be later than 5:50

... or perhaps from Cadillac mountain, we are to look West? i donno.

.... the sign to Nepal cracks me up !

i think it is 5:50 am as you go to this mt to see sunrise.
been pondering the reason, for the clocks in book for
awhile, have come up with nothing. from reading
the story fan said it was a week ago, so the clocks
are not for a time line to the story.

There are many sign posts along the carriage routes and there may very well be more on ohter roads. The pictures I have seen look similar, with many names and directions.

Two pair of glasses and a magnifier later, we don't see your star, Beth. Seems there's (if you think of Mack lifting his left arm to view his watch) markings for 12, 3, 6 and 9. Can't see a star. But it does look like 9:30. Is it just us?

    Hi Fur,

I'm bummed you can't see it. How strong is your magnifier? Mine is 20X. The star appears to have five points. When the lens is this strong, you pick up tiny patterns.

My concern is perhaps the image is a moire pattern and distortion may be what I see. If you are looking through 3X 5X or even 10X, I'm not sure if you will be able to see the five points.

This photo of the illustrators work may have been scanned and/or printed in low resolution, possibly 200 dpi. A textured pattern is not unusual with printed material meant for public viewing. Our eyes "get" the image easily without any higher resolution.

My eyes are tired now. I've uncrossed them twice. I don't think our illustrator wants us to go bonkers with eeny weeny dot things. May be unintentional on their part and just ink bleed. Thanks for looking.

Trove on mighty hunters! Take care, Fur.

    Your friend,
    Beth

This also adds up to 19 - which of course is the number each square in the 4x4 adds up to.

19 sure seems to be a significant number.

Perhaps the authors are fans of Stephen King, a la The Dark Tower.
