    My observations:

3 of the 4 Birch trees have what look like "eyes" the middle ones "eye" could be an owl or an eagle also looks like you could have the letters "T" and "F" just above the "eye"

The rock at Fandangos tail bears the resemblance of a teepee or one of the universal signs for camping

The rock on the left side that appears to be leaning on the brown tree looks like it has two X marks on it

    Hi Rocarn,

Good observations. In regards to the teepee as a universal sign for camping... I had considered that very thing, especially in lieu of the illustrations on pp. 19 (RV leaving the scene) and p. 32 (Chief Abnaki). I thought a KOA campground may be relevant...Until I explored the symbol in more depth.

Look up Hancock County Airport and get into Google Maps Satellite mode. Note the shape of the airport flight pavement. The outline looks like the one on the rock. Interestingly, the airport connects to Bar Harbor road #3 and takes you to the island.

I thinks the cover page is an intro and the writer and illustrator want you to look and see (the eyes, maybe).

I love this book! Keep up the excellent troving!

    Your fellow trover,
    Beth

    Hi Beth,

Any idea what those indistinct blobs are supposed to be?

Without question, their colors are clear and consistently used in all of Pel's vibrant paintings.

The phrase "THE KEY TO THE WIND" is repeated four times (cardinals), for a total of 60 letters.

There are 60 pages to the book.

The cover shows a beach that has many birch trees.

    Interesting.
