Default Cover - Fandango The Key to the Wind

Fandango the fox sits with the ocean and sky in the background. White birch trees with odd shapes - possibly eyes?

    Hi Suelough,

Thank you for setting up these introduction threads. I think the cover has clues.

To the left side of Fandango's face are three colors together...red, yellow and blue. Could these be flag colors? I looked up clickable maps and could only find a blue, yellow and red flag belonging to Chad, Africa. Still, could it be significant? Perhaps a signal flag, house or boat flag?

Yes, I see eyes on the birch trees. I think it just means "to look" or "to see"...maybe "C"...i donno.

If you turn the book upside down and look at the upper left corner, the illustration of the gray rock looks like a snake's head. I owned a snake once and his eyes would cloud over when he went through a molt. So I don't think the snake has his eyes closed. The eye appears to be the orbit or base of a key. On page 5 there's another snake to the left side of Fandango's face. I didn't see any other snakes anywhere.

If you turn the book so that it's spine is away from you, check out the trunk of the large, brown tree. The depression in the trunk looks strangely like a boat or dug out canoe or something. Could it be something else?...i donno.

More stuff that catches my eye is the little flower next to the fox. There are flowers like this on page 26, and a rose in bloom on page 17. Any significance to this?...again i donno...duh. I will continue looking.

    Your friend,
    Beth

The three colors would be the original french flag of Acadia. The Red White and Blue tri-color stripe.

    Hi Astree,

Not sure how you got the letters. Good eye... I just don't see them yet. Interesting that the illustration on page 55, with the fox on a cliff, also has a puddle shaped key embedded in the stone. The stones on the cliff face have faces... or do you see more lettering?

    Hi Rob & Beth

The birch tree to the left - the "eye" looks like an owl

    Default Block from Mt Cadillac

OK - more on the cover...THe square block at the tip of his tail looks like it is from Mt Cadillac pages. If the flower is from another page - maybe the cover is a composite of things from throughout the book....

    Hi Beth,

Agreed. The p. 55 cliff was one of the first things that came to mind RE: C L I F (F).

The "C" is the top loop of the "key". The L and I are below. Flip the key so the C is at the bottom - you can now see the F (F).

(as an aside, there is an interesting word used about p. 4 - "predators" - which is an anagram for "teardrops" - which fits into the lamenting text of p. 4, as well as possibly the p. 55 puddle.). and "cliff" "drop")

Other letters? I see a possible X mark, down and left of the key. On the rock at Fandango's tail is something, looks like a sextant or an intstrument (reminds of p. 30).

Steve - Saw the owl, think it may be significant, at least as a hint.

These red, yellow and blue balls look very similar to the logo on the sign in front of
The Asticou Inn. I emailed the inn to see if they knew what they stood for but they did not know.
