This is the same chapter that Neptune sorts through his famous ship wrecks. I haven't done the research yet--but my guess is that we should be looking for a wreck from 1653 in the area.

    Red face

Skip that--historically unlikely to find such a ship here--what was I thinking?

    Hi Sue,

Here's another take on the 1653. I don't see it as a date in time. Rather, if you substitute the numbers for the alphabet, you get A,F,E,C. Unscramble that and you get CAFE. The are a number of cafes on the island, Cafe This Way, The Burning Tree, Jordan Pond House (near the Bubbles) to name a few.

Can't seem to figure out the X,+,C,*? symbols on the open chest of the illustration. Will have to continue researching that.

The Dolphins are pointing to specific letters and a word in the border. The dolphin pointing at (I think) 5:00 position points to SEA. The Dolphin at the 6:00 position points to MY. The dolphin at (I think) 7:00 position points to the word SCEPTRE. This could be read SEE (SEA) MY SCEPTER.

The Sceptre was a French ship in 1780... It is also noted as a ceremonial or emblematic staff usually carried by a monarch as a sign of power... Neptune's staff was fork shaped embodied with immense earth shattering magical powers... Many ways to take in researching this, I think.

Could it simply imply... follow a fork in the road?

Interestingly, the name of Disney's Neptune character in the movie,The Little Mermaid (1989), is called Triton. In France, the tines referred to teeth, thus were called Trident... name of a chewing gum lol... see where hunting gets ME?... all the way down the rabbit hole.

Anyway, must be something more we can research on this page. See ya.

    Your friend,
    Beth

Nice on the 1653 = cafe, Beth! I haven't worked on this in a while - will try to get back to it soon.

Thanks, Sue. I think I figured out the X,+,c,* now.

Maybe it means C= See, += And, X= Mark, *= Spot. See and Mark (the) Spot. But I could be wrong. If I'm right, I don't think it gets us far.

    Keep smilin'

I have been thinking that maybe the "x" and "+" combine to make the eight pointed star.
    The "C" not sure...
    I don't have a clue

    Hi Bobby,

Okay, let's try it. Would we get " C (see), 2 (two) **(stars) "?? or " **(stars) 2 (to), C (see) " ?? The Rockerfellers weren't stars, like Hollywood, but they were responsible for building the carriage road along with protecting the the park. Many famous people including stars visited the island. Unsure if this is the way to go... but interesting.

Thanks, Bobby. Maybe we can research this some more.

1653 could also spell "face" for what ever that is worth
