    Default Sanity Check

Hey, how about a sanity check at this point. Before everyone goes off and spends countless precious treasure hunting hours on this thing, let's get some questions answered.

    1. What exactly is the treasure? Prove to us that it is real and not yet another scam.

    2. How does one claim the treasure? There is nothing in the rules on how to actually claim the prize.

    3. Who are the publishers? $22.50 is kind of pricey for a treasure hunt valued at $10,000. The motives behind this hunt are not clear to me. I remain skeptical.

    Hi Rusty,

I'm with you. Fandango seems like fun, but I'm derailed again. If I get hooked, I may lose sight of DAR. This has to be worth while. With ATT, I traveled far. I can't really do that now. So, if I'm arm-chairing this hunt, I need to feel secure I'm not wasting my research time.

...oh, bother...if I hear alot of "yeahs, just do it" ... I'll buy the book anyway. I'm as curious as a cat (meow).

    Your friend,
    Beth

Good points, Rusty. I just sent an email to them through their website:

I am an administrator on Tweleve.org (an armchair treasure hunting community). Your hunt is being worked by some of our members (myself included) and I have a few questions (to ease the minds of some of our hunters that have been burned by other hunts):

    1. The actual treasure is not described. How can we be sure that the value of "over $10,000" is valid? Your website states that "The finder of the key may keep the treasure or claim the cash value (minimum $10,000)." but I don't believe I saw that in the Official Rules in the book, so is it permissible to take the cash value of $10,000 in lieu of the actual treasure?

    2. There is no claim method described in the book. Does the solve include method of submission?

Perhaps you would like to visit our forum and introduce yourselves to our community - we have a lot of members!

Thanks for your time - I just want to make sure that this is an active, valid hunt that we are recommending to our members.

    Thanks,

    Sue

And I found this entry on Wikipedia:

Jeff Stockwell is a script writer/author who lives in Malibu, California. His most famous work is Disney's Bridge to Terabithia , but his other works include The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys,Wilder Days and All The Queens Men . He was born in Colorado in 1958 and later lived in Massachusetts. Jeff graduated from Stanford University in California. He now lives with three dogs, his wife, and his kid.

Jeff is also co-creator, with his brother Pel Stockwell, of the cult classic, Fandango. Jeff has also adapted Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer and a live action version of Kiki's Delivery Service. These are still under development. Jeff taught at a film program in La Rochelle, France. Jeff's writings have taken him across the world, to places like Kenya, Africa, where his next movie is planned to take place.

LOL - yeah, I think it's a bit early to call a book that's only been out since the summer a cult classic.

Thanks, Sue. That was a pretty interesting response. It clarified that we aren't looking for a key afterall. We're looking for a "key" to the key to the safety deposit box. Hmn...quick change of direction here.

I'm also curious about the fact that they have stated to you that "Stockwell Publishing will need to be notified" so that they can tell the treasure hunting community. Don't the rules indicate they have the right to NOT notify anyone until the end date?

Call me sceptical. Just ignore me if I'm too paranoid for you. But once bitten......
