Interesting, but I have always thought the number is 014 029 826. That's what it looks like when I zoom in on the photo. Also, ISBN numbers are either 10 digits or, after 2007, 13 digits. This one is only 9 digits, and being on the only "red/yellow book", I wonder what it is supposed to be.

The star code, which uses 2 stars with the same color point pointing at a single letter. Each star has 5 points with one of 5 colors:blue, pink, orange, yellow, and red which stand for the numbers 1,2,3,4 and 5 (from the Old Lady's square). Take the two stars together, pairing points to get polybius "numbers." Apply them to a polybius square and solve for the letters.

For example, the first letter of the blue word, NUMBERS, "N," is found on page 7 (Neptune) using blue points from the upper and lower right stars. The colors for the upper star are (starting with the blue point and going clockwise):

Blue, red, yellow, orange, red, or 15435

The colors for the lower star are:
Blue, yellow, red, blue, yellow, or 14514

Pair these numbers into 11, 54, 45, 31, and 54 and apply them to a 5x5 polybius square to find the letters.

Do this with each pair of stars that are used to identify a letter of the star code.

The trick would be to know where to start on each star, which direction to go around the star, and whether a keyword is used in the polybius grid, which would skew the letter order.

3. Good idea, though it could get really complicated really quick. As far as start, start with North at the top, then go clockwise like you indicate. seems logical...

Yes, I thought a good place to start would be "the highest point" on each star and to go clockwise. I've shared this idea, but haven't actually tried it yet myself, and I admit that my example above starts with the color blue on both stars, not the highest, or northern point (I did go clockwise, though).

If you stick with the two paired stars for each letter, start with the highest point on each and go clockwise, it shouldn't be too complicated - if it works at all. I'm still amazed that you figured out the original star code! Now that was complicated! Kudos on that one.

Thanks..I remember being frustrated that trying to figure out a graphical solution, I could never get anywhere with the multicolor borders, then trying to use the stars to triangulate things on the page since the eyes/nose thing wasnt working too well for me either. Then started finding good correlation on some of the star colors. But then to find some of the colors yielded incomplete or wrong letters to form words.. this is where it gets dicey. Is it telling us to use ONLY the blue numbers, for example?
