    followthefox was created on 12/1/05
followthefox . net was created 10/27/06
and the whale, eagle and cat sites were created on may 17 2007.

Book released on June 29th 2007.

what are your thoughts on why?

Does anyone have any guesses why?
I have seen other sites where they have multiple web addresses that lead to the same website. Sometimes it's because they want to make sure you end up there even if you type it incorrectly.

Another reason they buy up different domain names is because they think might want to use them later and don't want anybody else to get them first. Finally, it could be that that they thought they might do other books, using a cat, whale, or eagle as the main character. Once the Fandango hunt is closed, they can rename the site and continue using it with one of the other domain names. If you notice, the fox domain names were bought 2 years before they released the book, so while they were working on the book, they knew they wanted that name.

I doubt this is some big secret that will reveal anything about about Fandango or the riddle. But to anyone who wants to pursue this as an avenue - I say, go for it.

i think that is where I've landed as well. I can't imagine its going to lead anywhere to the solve. the dates of creation are interesting-i don't believe important to the solve but interesting in that they may have been thinking about another hunt-

i just can't believe it helps solve any part of this puzzle. I could be wrong but I can't make it make sense. Not with all that they've said about how when creating the hunt they didn't have the internet in mind, etc...

I was a little excited that I discovered ANYTHING new about this puzzle. even if it didn't get me anywhere. at least it was new. everything else I've been working on with this book has been studied a hundred ways, a hundred times and leads right back to nowheresville.

    ugh.

Yes - it's always exciting to stumble on something you didn't expect - and this is a bit of a mystery. Great sleuthing! The dates, coming after the book came out, suggest maybe future books? I hope so, but right now, I just want someone to solve this one! Maybe they will learn from the problems this one has created -too many conflicting clues, false clues, confusing clues, and followthecat will be better
