Doc,
I have been messing around with some of your ideas. I was wondering why, when you replace the letters with numbers inside the grid you don't skip 18 as 18=Q. This might be of some help??
Also, I notice that if you are assuming that the grid wraps around itself, it does not really matter how you orient the Qless alphabet in the grid as your starting point is already picked. IE in this puzzle the starting point is W. Your acorn directions are not affected if we put A in the first box and the W ends up in the bottom row, 2nd column. You will still get the same letter sequence of SRVBH...etc.
Just some observances. I point this out because then you can actually eliminate your first step, or conversely, figure out what the first step should be. That is, the lower case g represents something, but not the layout of the grid. Perhaps it is the first letter of the grid with the rest of the alpha in regular sequence following...like a key?
I read in another thread that someone located in the Nomenclature book the work LOCK and KEY entwined. I think perhaps it is KEY M for the bee puzzle. I will be working this line and let you know if I find anything that makes any sense.
What is the sound of one hand clapping?
