Default More detail information on US Zipcodes

When inquiring about detailed zipcode information from their website, I received the following information, and thought I would share it. My thoughts, are even though an exact zipcode may not be used in ATT, perhaps the following information may help us narrow the field. I found the word use of sectional interesting.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------
Do each of the 50 US states have their own number, as in a prefix?...

Thank you for visiting our web site regarding ZIP Codes. Each state does not have its own number. Below is a lay out of how ZIP Codes work:

The first 3 letters of a ZIP Code (123) stand for either a Sectional Center or Large City
The next 2 letters of a ZIP Code (45) stand for a Post Office facility or Delivery Area

There are not letters in a ZIP Code which represent a certain state. If we can be of assistance to you in the future please don't hesitate to contact us. Thank you for using the United States Postal Service.
The only token I found was SQUAT!!!

Here's another zip code tool. It's more fun than useful - but it does show how the various zip code numbers localize an area. Click the zoom button to show how it narrows down the area.
