    Default The Core

First thing to realize is that you are looking for a city.
The only ciities identified in the book are the state capitals
on pages 16 and 17. And only my a star.

Next notice is that the clock has obviously stopped
at 11::52, but the hands point to 12 and 52.

Reviewing the state capitals shows that combined
route 12/52 runs through Minneapolis/St Paul for
    ten miles.

Also, due south of the state capital, 16 miles, is
    the town of Apple Valley.

Also, research reveals that the U. of Minnesota does
do apple breeding using technology and one of their
most popular creations is the Harralson or the
    "Gone with the Wind" Apple.

Taking the freeway, route 94, from the state capital
due west for 15 miles (3 leagues and another two thirds)
gets you off on Laurel Ave in the town of Golden Valley.
In this section of laurel, there are cross streets with
state names (Pennsylvania Ave, N Jersey Ave, etc..)
There are eight streets of these names.

There has been much development and urban planning
    in this area since 1982.
Including Wirth Park, a Sculpture Garden, and other
    Prairie Grass gardens.

I am st the ppart of the verse whee I need to seek three
2's and two 3's and consult a map in which weather doesn't
affect it... park map or city sidewalk guide.

Thats the bare facts of the solution thus far.

Oh and my wife pointed out that the Golden Apple
looks like a Miini Apple Half. (Minneapolis)

I will play devil's advocate with you, Tron.

    1. How can you say the clock doesn't read 11:52? On a real clock, when the time is 11:52, the hour hand is almost pointed at 12, just like in the picture. It looks like 11:52 to me.

    2. Where is Route 94 in the Minneapolis area? I-94 runs through northern Minneapolis, about 7 miles north of Laurel. Is there another Route 94?

Devil's Advocate is fine, esp. for a twenty-four year old puzzle.

The clock clue is not about time but about numbers,
the little hand is on the twelve and the big hand is on
the fifty-two. It is the only way to give this clue and
distinguise that the time is not relevant.

The direction clue from St Paul state capital reads
3 leagues (nine miles) and 2/3 more west.
Nine miles along rouye 94 (due west) brings you
to a clover leaf. At this point 94 heads north and
394 heads due west, as per the instuctions.

The roadway resembles a four leaf clover -- lucky
    for those who are supersitious.

I find a few things here to review, but I am reconfirmed
after I exit onto Laurel Avenue (exit here and rest ....
but do not rest long) as well as the eight cross streets
    that are state names.

There still are many unanswered issues (perhaps the street
name of Louisianna Street is infact misspelled, *shrug*)

"Your hunt ends where your return begins" That sounds like
a loop, a circle, or the clover leaf, again *shrug*

First tree in the third row... again.. i don't know.

FEXIX, why would I ever change my name... who the hell
    would want to be me??

    Another verse:

    "Some trees have leaves,
    And some have needles.
    At this point in time,
They all look like hay stacks."

This reads like you are looking
at a lumber yard. All the trees have been
    cut and stacked. Harvested.

    Default Minnesota

    Hi,
I haven't been on the site in a few months, mainly worked on ATT and finally have time again to start with another hunt. I found your reference to Minneapolis interesting. I live here (MN) & everything you talk about IS here. The parks, there is a sculpture of an apple, all of the streets. 94 does run from the north west suburbs through Minneapolis (west of downtown) & goes south of Minneapolis into St. Paul.

I don't know St.Paul very good, but if you need help or info with Minneapolis I will help.

    Good Luck

My solution, which you may determine the feasibilty of,
is to start at the state capital (St Paul) and travel west
along 94 (which is also 12/52). I believe you can travel
west between 11 and 15 miles.

That gets you to the area of Golden Valley.

Where is Laurel Avenue in relation to this course?

    Default laurel

There is a Laurel Nature Area in Golden Valley. It is called:

    Laurel Avenue Greenbelt
(Hwy 55 to Winnetka Ave. South to Laurel Ave(or go Hwy 394 to Winnetka & go north), then east. Trail is on the north side between Pennsylvania and Colorado Aves.)

    34.5 acres
    Walkways/Trails

Note: Laurel Ave is parallel & in between Hwy 394 & 55. 55 runs parallel to 394 (it is just north of 394). Maybe 55 has something to do with the 2's & 3's that are mentioned..?

Also there is a large amount of street names in that area that are State names.

If you want I can let you know the websites that I obtained the info.

    I hope this helps!!

    Default trees

I found this fact about Golden Valley & trees....

"Golden Valley has received the nationally recognized designation of Tree City USA for the past several years. Tree City USA was developed by the National Arbor Day Foundation, in conjunction with the United States Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters. "
