    Default California Musings . . . .

From work I did on the title page, it seems that the start point may be in California's Diablo Park, near what once was gate ten -- though the park gate numbering system may have changed since then. Anyone who lives in that area (or is even somewhere else and still just working on this out of stubborn curiousity) let me know.
I originally wanted to do "Where it all went wrong", but 5 days later, this topic nicely dove-tailed . . .

    Sure:

Take the first letters and last letters of the title:

    ThE GoldeN ApplE TalE

    TE GN AE TE

"GATE TEN E" -- so we could be looking for "Entrance Gate 10" or "Gate 10-E"

For the next part, I grabbed letters out of the title plus introductory sentences on that page using a different method:

    "the golden aPPle tale"

"Within the pages of this bOOk a tale of gOOd and evil is revealed. Be kind in heart and clever in mind, to solve the riDDles and claim the jeweled prize."

    1) Find all the double letters.
    2) Take that letter once, plus the letter before and the letter after.
    3) Anagram.

    "APL BOK GOD IDL" =
    "GOLD DIABLO PK"

Where the 'PK' could reference either 'peak' or 'park', I also looked up on google that there was indeed a "Diablo Peak/Park" in California in the San Francisco area, and 'gold' could not only refer to the prize, but that it was in site of the Golden Gate Bridge.

Neither method I used was my invention -- both are older code formulas that are pretty easy to crack if you know what to look for. Also, sneakily putting stuff in the title page, rules, or table of contents is not new either. Basically, I just kept trying different methods until I found a possible method-match for the first page.

So, we *might* have a plausible start -- but Diablo is a pretty big government park . . .
