Wink I have a solution to this

I don't want to sound like one of the many people who comes onto this board with a "solution" to a hunt, and then it turns out to be some far-fetched idea. But I have a solution to TGAT.

My problem is this: if i post it, someone will go there and claim it. If it's still there, I want it for myself. However, it is a pretty good distance from me, winter is setting in, and I dont have a good heater in the car.
So my question is: with the PO box being abandoned, what are the odds that the guy left the apple in the hiding place? Might he just have gone and retrieved it? I'm pretty much 100% positive that my solution is the correct one. Just like if you were to solve Masquerade or Menagerie, you'd know you were right, even before you went digging.

If I were to go try to retreive it, it wouldnt be until spring or summer. Probably around income tax refund time, although maybe on the equinox But my question is, what are the odds it's still there?

I would say that if you determined the final hiding spot, you could determine if it were

secure and secluded enough to weather thirty years of change. Good luck on the quest.

A small number of us would love to have this finally brought to a satisfying resolution.

Have you read through the postings made here over the last few months to see if your solution (or part of it) has been discussed?

Personally, I think it's unlikely you will be able to retrieve the apple without the author's help.

going back to the book pg3, it says who ever solves the riddle, can dig it up
the author said, he would help you get there and wanted to be present
im thinking if he did not go back and get it, and he put it in a good solid, sturdy container
    it should be there

I suggest you divulge at least the general area where you think it is, then see if anyone here lives near enough to engage as a partner. It would be very exciting to see this hunt successfully concluded -- you sound pretty certain!

    Jagular,

You do not have enough posts to receive a pm as of yet so no one could let you know quietly if they would help you out.

As I have said and done in the past - if something is near me I would retrieve it for anyone. Without needing to cash in on anything at all.

    I have done this already.

It's the hunt that counts and whomever put the time in to find it should receive the spoils.

I apologize if I come across as vague or cryptic, but please understand my situation. I've been married to this hunt since it came out. My mother originally bought me the book in the aftermath of Masquerade, and I was 12 years old when it came out. I've wanted to see it solved ever since. If I had my way, I would take my 15 year old son there and retrieve it. But seeing as I'm from Texas, I'm really not equipped to handle the cold. Realistically speaking, I would have no chance to go there until at least the spring time.

In response to the feedback I've received, nobody who has offered to help dig it up (either here or in PM) is within 5 hours of the location. And most of the people who offered are much further than that.

And to the replies in the forum,

Tron: the hiding spot appears to be at unmolested, regardless of if it is secluded or not.

tpschar: I have, at one time or another, read every TGAT post both here and at Q4T. Certain parts of my solution were discussed. None of it has been discussed and dismissed outright. And other parts of it have never been discussed at all.

CW0909: My assumption is that it is in a clay apple, painted red. Please understand that I do not want to say if it had to do with Kansas or not. I'm not trying to be rude, but just to consider my options at this time. If I were, for example, to confirm the city, it would make it easier for someone else to figure it out and claim it ahead of me.

J15Bell: Thank you for your offer. I agree with you 100% that the person who figures it out should be able to get it. Not because I believe I have solved it, but just because what is right is right. I've made the same offer to others on different hunts.

Thank you everyone for your support in this. If no other options present themselves, I suppose I will have to wait until the sometime in 2010 to go there. I guess in the meantime I will continue working on Verse One in The Secret. That's the other hunt that I do.

What were you trying to accomplish by posting now? All you did was ask if we thought the apple was still hidden, without giving any details whatsoever. I agree with you, however, that it is probably pretty darn cold in Alaska right now. B)
