    Hi all, first post after checking the forum out for a while now.

    I had a day off ill last week and thought I'd dig in to this hunt as a starter and might have stumbled on some pertinent info. Forgive me if any of this info is being repeated.

    1.
    Taking the misspelled DAKODA I number substituted D=4 and missing T=20 taking that as the number 42. I then checked where Latitude 42 degrees N ran through, which are east to west the states as follows:
    (OREGON / IDAHO / CALIFORNIA / NEVADA / UTAH all bordered BY the parallel), WYOMING / NEBRASKA / IOWA / ILLINOIS / MICHIGAN / (PENNSYLVANIA / NEW YORK bordered BY the parallel), CONNECTICUT / R.ISLAND / MASSACHUSETTS.
    7 states bordered BY the 42nd parallel + 8 that it passes through.

    2.
    "Some trees have leaves, and some have needles, at this point in time, they all look like haystacks".
    Some famous haystacks I found were Haystack Rock in Oregon (on US Route 101?), Haystacks Observatory Massachusetts (LOOK like HAYSTACKS).

    There is an 'Omphalos' sculpture by Dmitri Hadzi in Harvard Square, Massachusetts. It was scheduled to be torn down or relocated I believe.

    "Your quest draws nearer (draw a bridge?), so don't get to 'smart' ('trams' backwards), in order to retrieve, you must first create" Could this be an allusion to San Francisco??

    The first thing that I focused on in that page's drawing was the gate...a Golden Gate?

    Regarding Cassiopeia, there was a warship USS Cassiopeia that first sailed out from SF on 21st December 1942 which is the Winter Solstice.

    If we take the time on the clock in the house as 11.52 then the angle between the hands is 44 degrees with an inverse of 316 degrees (44+316=360).

    The main ladder in the orchard apple picking picture has two rungs inserted into the highest 2 steps, making them half the gap:
    From the bottom up the steps are like this- 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10.
    I'm sure somewhere there's a constellation or outline of a coastline made by the trees and apples.

    What could Arvin & Azar mean as they're not names you usually find.
    Arvin is a city in Kern County CA nr Bakersfield.
    Azar is the Persian 9th month from Nov-Dec (Gregorian) and also Arabic for March (Gregorian).
    I did follow the Jef Raskin leads aswell; he dropped the extra 'f' in Jeff early on. Had son Aza(R)askin but that was after 1982 I think.

    I doubt this anything to do with it but I kept having the Garden of the Hesperides pop up in my head. The Greek legend of a garden of Golden Apples near CYrene, (Cy Donleg) in Libya. I suppose golden apples is one of those repeating romantic myths.

    10.
    The bold state letters in the borders get you SEEIRNEPT. I'm sure PINE TREES has something to do with it all. It is the N.Carolina state tree and also Maine's nickname as the Pine Tree State.

    Hopefully that can be some help to you guys! The book certainly got my seeking sensors tingling.

    No problem erexere, after reading your great contributions I thought it good to share...I've got a hunch it's around the N.East coast perhaps Oregon but I don't really know why. I'd love to go there someday.

    Im not convinced of any specific approach yet. I go full throttle into creative madness and I end up pretending this is a twisted reference to the Clash of the Titans....which puts me really close to a fenced area known as the Octopus Tree in Tillamook, Oregon, but that is just too much mind boggling bullkracken to think its been packaged to resemble a scene from a favorite film and myth. Great connection to the star constellations though. Andromeda...Cetus...maybe Algol (also a computer programming language).

    Im willing to forget that whole path of ideas revolving around substituting apples for cheese at Peter McIntosh's Tillamook Creamery.

    5he 8-states latitude line is VERY intriguing. I'm in favor of a coastal related solution so that would put us either in Oregon or Maine. I havent even glanced at a Maine alternative yet.

    rows and columns do seem to be important, and looking for needles...pins...pines...

    with the right insight, I bet this puzzle will quickly fall into place.

    I still like the idea of apples = apple + s = s + addle = saddle.
